Chad Johnson tells Parcells to "call him"

In the post below this one, I talked about the potential of a Chad Johnson trade involving the Dolphins, referring to comments Johnson reportedly made about the Dolphins. And now thanks to "Dolphin305," we got the video evidence:

All I got to say to this is, "Parcells...stop playin' around and CALL HIM!!!"

Again, thanks to "Dolphin305" for e-mailing me the link to this video.

Unexpected
I'm a little surprised at how enthusiastic some of the blog readers are about CJ potentially (big if of course) coming to miami.

Most everyone here seemed to think that trading away 29 year old chris chambers was a good idea. After all he'd be past his prime by the time the dolphins were ready to compete.

And no I'm not saying Chambers is as good as CJ, but bear in mind, CJ is 30 - a year older than Chambers. How good will he be by the time the dolphins compete? Oh and if he's complained about getting the ball in Cincy with a top QB at the helm like Palmer, what's he going to be like here catching passes from.....Beck? A rookie draft pick QB? A retread veteran? Other?

So assuming people still want CJ, despite what I just said....if we let chambers go for a 2nd round pick, and everyone agrees CJ is better than Chambers, then are you willing to give up say a 1st rounder for a 30 year old receiver? On a team that's 1-15?

CJ is 30
TO is 35 and had a great season this year. Randy Moss is 30 and you seen his prodcution. I think we're ready to compete in 2 years CJ will be 32. Best yet, he wants to come here. Bring him on.

~Most everyone here seemed to think that trading away 29 year old chris chambers was a good idea.~

When trading Chambers age never entered my mind. I thought (and still do) that he is overrated and dropped too many passes.

~then are you willing to give up say a 1st rounder for a 30 year old receiver? On a team that's 1-15?~

No maybe our late 2nd or 3rd though.

No...
...I wouldn't give up a #1 for him. I also don't think that is the going rate for a WR, even one as good as him. The only reason we got a #2 for Chambers is because it was during the season, and the Bolts were desperate.

I'd give up nothing higher than a #3 for him. He'll be 32 yrs old before this team is a serious playoff contender. Plus, I seriously doubt that even playing in his hometown will keep his mouth shut for long.

Honestly, I'd love to have his talent on the roster, but I'd rather take a pass on him. I really doubt Parcells would take a chance on him unless he came really cheap.

No #1
If the Bengals want a 1st round pick for CJ, then they are crazy. It won't happen, nor should the Dolphins do it.

What I would like to see is the Dolphins trade their second 2nd round pick for Johnson. Basically, that would equate to the Dolphins trading Chambers for Johnson.

Guys...
Johnson for Chambers? Sure. But bear in mind that everyone knows the dolphins got a 2nd round pick for Chambers, so why would the Bungles ask for anything less than a #1?

I mean if you had Chambers and Johnson on your team, traded Chambers for a 2, do you then turn around and give up Johnson for a #2 also? I think you'd expect a #1.

And yes, Chambers is overrated, drops passes, etc - but he still got us a 2nd round pick.

Also....
I haven't heard you guys address the potential problems that Johnson could have or bring here. Oftentimes hearing him complain you'd think that he was playing on a team with Leo the Lemon at QB, as opposed to his actual QB, Palmer who is a top 5 guy.

i'm with you Nat
I am basically against this because i wouldn't want to put up what will be necessary to land him.

but you bring up a good point about what his age will be when the fins are ready to compete- and in that vain i go back to an earlier statement i made-- that the fins need to hold on to their picks and build from the draft.. add not adding high-priced veterans through trades. if they want to splurge on a couple guys in the FA market I am fine with that... but no more trading away picks..

The Jayfiss Report ...one fan's rants.

If you want to play this game...
....then I'll argue that the Pats got Randy Moss for a 4th round pick.  So Chad Johnson shouldn't cost any more than, say, a 3rd round pick if we are going off of this logic.  All in all, I think a 2nd round pick is fair, especially if Johnson threatens to hold out in Cincy.

Also, you bring up his attitude, but really, he doesn't get into too many riffs with his QB.  This year he did, though.  But the reason I don't worry about this is two-fold:

  1. It's not like the Dolphins have great team chemistry to begin with.  And you can win with these kinds of players.  Just ask the Eagles when they had T.O. or even the Cowboys with T.O.
  2. I think Parcells, Sparano, and the "family" will keep him in line.
If he wants to be here that bad, he isn't a poor investment...as long as the cost isn't a first round pick.

Why would they ask for less than a #1?
because he disgruntled, doesn't want to be there and kinda really wants to go to a specific team. Ya know, the same reason the Raiders could only get s 4th for Moss.
>K?

Interesting comments...
You can say Johnson is disgruntled and that may or not be true, but I'm willing to accept that premise. However, you can't compare Randy Moss and his disgruntled Raiders season (42 catches 550 yards, after which he was traded to new england, to Johnson's current production (90+ catches, 1300+ yards).

In effect, Randy Moss wasn't happy in Oakland and basically quit. Mind you, Moss is an immense talent but he did give up in Oakland. So CJ may be disgruntled or unhappy or whatever, but you are still talking about a guaranteed 90+ catch, 1200+ yard receiver every year. I think the asking price will be a first rounder.

About Parcells and TO, keep in mind that TO is/was Jerry Jones baby. That's probably one reason Parcells left in the first place.

Talent but...
I just want to point out that Chad is a talker.  I've always liked that about him, but just remember how we all soured on Lemon when he opened his mouth this year.  Chad Johnson on a losing team is a pouter, and he will talk to the media.  We will be a losing team for at least the next year.  I love his talent and I would be happy if they got him, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was more a hinder than a helper.  Overall, I'm against it.  Keep the picks and build the team through the draft.

Nat! you failed to account
in your equation, that is Ocho cinco is not change from the team, then he might quit on them like Moss did.
I will see the Dolphins win a SUPER BOWL before i die(20 years and counting)

Amazing isn't it?
Anyone think that a player of CJ talent would still want to come to Miami (1-15 team) if Cam and Randy was still in charge? Big BIG ups to Wayne for getting Parcells.
>K?

by Neo on Jan 28, 2008 2:02 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

exactly
thats exactly what I said as soon as Parcells was hired. I said the best thing he will do for this franchise is make our team much more appealing to other players. Yes there are still the kinda guys that will take the best offer and not care, but who wants playesr that are only in it for the money when you're a fan. You want someone that will put thier 4sses on the line for our team. CJ will do that I believe... and someone correct if I'm wrong but CJ is considerably taller/faster than Chambers, true or false?

by YatilGinnJr on Jan 28, 2008 3:15 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Matty -
how about a poll on this whole CJ thing?

Something like, would you trade for CJ?

No, regardless of the cost
Yes, for a 1st rounder
Yes, for a 2nd rounder
Yes, for a 3rd rounder or lower draft pick

Thanks!
Now that's what I call listening to reader feedback :) :)

how about...
swapping 1st round picks w/ them down to #9 for Chad? is that too high a price to pay? Personally, I think it might be, possibly if they include maybe a 3rd,maybe 4th roudner?

by YatilGinnJr on Jan 28, 2008 7:35 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

If Cincy also threw in...
...a 3rd rounder, I'd be for it.  At #9, the Dolphins could take a corner (Talib, McElvin, or Jenkins) or a tackle (Clady or Williams).  That would work.  You get a top playmaking, proven WR in Johnson and fill a major need at #9 as well as picking up an additional 3rd round pick.

But would Cincy do this?  That's the question.

by Matty I on Jan 28, 2008 9:05 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

If Moss went for a fourth
We could get Chad Johnson for cheap as well

by Patssuck456 on Jan 28, 2008 10:11 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

true
only problem with that is Moss was coming off a disappoint season while Chad is coming off a very good season.  But I do think a 2nd round pick would be pretty fair if you ask me.  But Cincy might not see it that way.

Mr. Parcells
Please get Ocho NOW, Please Pretty please. The thought of him doing either 1 of these dances in front of the the NE would be just too satisfying. The look on all the smug faces of the Patriots would just be awesome.

I posted these links in a side diary.
