REPORT: Jason Taylor to have surgery (updated)

Oddly enough, BuffaloBills.com is reporting that Jason Taylor needs to undergo some offseason surgery:

Taylor suffered a torn plantar fascia (foot) late this past season that will likely require surgery.

Now that's all it says in the article, which is about Aaron Schobel replacing JT in the pro bowl because of this foot injury.  What we don't know is how serious this is.  Worst case scenario, though, would be that Taylor misses some (or most) of the spring practices.  It's not like he needs those practices anyway.

Regardless, it's something to keep an eye on.

**UPDATE**: The Palm Beach Post confirms the injury and Taylor's decision to pull out of the pro bowl. But this story also says surgery is not needed:

Taylor battled discomfort for the second half of the season before eventually tearing the plantar fascia on his left foot against Baltimore on Dec.16. The injury causes pain to the bottom of the foot and heel, but typically doesn't require surgery to heal.

So with the right amount of rest, it seems Taylor can avoid going under the knife. That's good news! [end update]

I always go to buffalobills.com
for all my breaking news..

But seriously a tear of the plantar fascia is no joke... surgery and then rest is what JT will need. Here's hoping he's back by training camp.

Yeah
I'll never forget where I was when I first read about the JFK assassination on buffalobills.com.

sush
in all seriousness, BBnews.com is where I use to get the hottest dolphins news. If you check the back pages, you'll find the discussion where Cam admits that is where he got all his post game dolphins player updates, and Cam would often provide useful dolphin game plan updates too.

So this upcomming year, I may be out of touch with the phins, but I'll sure know more about the ravens then I want to know.

Funny
Now that was funny.  I hope the Ravens know what they are getting with Cam.  I was on their board and they think that this is the best move that their team could have ever made.  Obviously they were not paying any attention to our great record setting 1-15 season in 2007, with our 28th ranked offense.

As long as Cam is up in the booth calling the plays and has no input on the players that are selected (or their families) then they should be fine.  If not, I fear someone's head will be on a platter.

JT's injury
Let me tell you guys, I've also had plantar fascitis recently.. and it REALLY hurts. Once you start running you can block it out but everytime you take a step its painful. This does not heal very quickly either. You have to constantly stretch it out and wear a special boot when you sleep, and even then, you're looking at 3-6 months before the pain goes away completely. And I only had a mild case I believe.

I remember reading that JT has this injury a few years ago, and opted to get the electric shock therapy which is supposed to speed healing. Surgery is a last ditch option from what the foot specialist told me only if you dont respond to rest, cotrizone injections and electric shock therapy.

good info
thanks for sharing.

So do you think JT will be 100% by, worst case scenario, training camp in July?

by Matty I on Jan 24, 2008 10:07 PM EST up reply actions

yea...
Last time he had this injury i believe he came back fine by training camp. It might be alot worse this time around though, if they are thinking abotu surgery. The problem is you have to stay off your feet as much as possible so staying in shape is hard. Alot of heavy biking or swimming should do the trick tho, as boring as they are.

Plantar Fasciitis...
hurts like hell.  YGinnJr is right.  It can also linger for years.  Rest, stretching, and anti-inflammatories (including corticosteroids) are the mainstays of treatment.  Even then, it can come back to haunt you.  I wish I'd known about this during the season, because I would never have been so critical of JT.  Looking back on his stats for this "off" year and now knowing he had a torn plantar fascia (preceded by the injured fascia, which is sometimes even more painful than the tear itself) makes his achievements all the more impressive.

We're lucky to have such a special talent on this team.  And what a leader, to continue to play with such a condition and not offer it as an excuse during such a nightmarish season.  After all he has been through, JT should be allowed to write his own ticket and retire as a Dolphin.

Go Dolphins.

AMEN, BROTHER
JT is the schnitt! I love this guy, and if anyone deserves to play it out as a Dolphin, this man does. He is one of the VERY FEW elements on this team right now that represent why I am a die hard Miami Dolphins fan!

Jason Taylor Foundation
Let Taylor finish his career in Miami...Veteran Leader....needed team Spirit! I would love to say the same for ZAC ATTACK Thomas (one my favorites of all time)but I would rather see him take care of his health (too many concussions shows you just how hard he plays the game)! If he is seriously medically cleared KEEP HIM...he will still be one of he leading tacklers in the game PERIOD!
Anyways one of my friends who works in operations for the Dolphins is leaving the team to work for the Jason Taylor Foundation....best of luck to him...at least he is with JT!
He got me sideline passes last year... great guy I know he will be an asset to JT!
