Around the AFC East: New York Jets

Well it seems as though Jetfighter from NY Landing Strip is on vacation, meaning I could do one of two things. I could sit here and bash the Jets much like the other 2 AFC East blogs are doing (and like they all did to me when I was on vacation). Or I could do nothing. Now, as much fun as mocking the Jets would be, I've learned from personal experience that I have very bad luck when mocking the opposition. Usually, it tends to come back and bite me in the ass. So rather than jinx myself, I'll take the high road and be mature about this. But first, I just wanted to talk a little bit about the Jets and why they are going to be so very good this year.

To start, let's quickly talk about last season. In Eric Mangini's first year, he guided the Jets, using his great knowledge of football, to a 10-6 record despite an incredibly difficult schedule. That in itself is enough to make you believe the Jets are due for another terrific season.

Now let's talk about their great leader and quarterback: Chad Pennington. When you think Chad Pennington, you think reliability. Every game, he always seems to be behind center. With that kind of durability, there's no need to ever worry about who your backup quarterback is. And boy, what an arm Chad has! With that arm, the deep ball is always an option with the Jets.

And speaking of their passing game, let's talk about their 2 top receivers: Laveranues Coles and Jerricho Cotchery. These two have the makings of a Marvin Harrison-Reggie Wayne type duo, only more efficient. There's no way Cotchery was a one year wonder, so put that thought out of your head. He's the next "big" thing in the NFL. In fact, I heard he's being included in the latest "Who's Now" debate over on ESPN. Now that's big!

And do I even need to bring up their running game? It's going to be just fantastic with Thomas Jones now in New York. He's a sure bet to ignite this Jet running attack considering he has a tremendous career yards-per-carry average (4.0 ypc).

Defensively, Jonathan Vilma leads this talented unit. He's poised to have his best season as a pro in 2007, especially considering how well he did last year in grasping the 3-4 defense. Boy did he really excel last season!

So, basically, the Jets are going to blow away everyone this year. Anything less than 11 wins is simply not possible. Not with Mangenius running the show!

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go vomit...
