Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

CONFIRMED: Randy Mueller fired, as are 2 others

There's now two reports that are claiming that GM Randy Mueller has been fired.  The first comes from ProFootballTalk:

Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the termination of Dolphins G.M. Randy Mueller became effective at 9:00 a.m. EST on Monday.

Mueller never had any contact with new Fins football poobah Bill Parcells.

The next comes from the Palm Beach Post:

The Dolphins have fired General Manager Randy Mueller, a source said Monday.

Bill Parcells, the vice president of football operations, held his first team meeting at 8 this morning in the Dolphins training facility auditorium. Coach Cam Cameron still is scheduled to speak to reporters at 12:15 this afternoon.

Also, for all you who may be interested, the Palm Beach Post is running a live blog from Davie, calling today "Black Monday."  Tim Graham is continuously updating what he sees and hears from the Dolphins training facility.  At this in time, the latest is that Parcells addressed the team for the first time at 8 am.  Graham says that Mueller is already there but there hasn't been a sighting of Cam yet.  He also reports that internal talks about free agency have already began, but Mueller doesn't seem to be involved in those.

It sure is going to be an interesting offseason for the Dolphins.  I still have a feeling that we won't know Cam's future for a few more days.  But it's looking more and more like Randy's fate may already be sealed.

More on this as it develops.  Of course, because of the holiday, I won't be able to update as often as usual.  But I'll do my best.

**UPDATE**: ESPN is now reporting that Mueller has been fired. Also, assistant director of player personnel Mike Baugh as well as college scouting coordinator Rick Thompson have been fired. The report also says Parcells will meet with Cameron tomorrow. It's interesting that Parcells wants to meet with Cam rather than simply fire him. That leads me to believe that there's actually a shot Cameron remains the head coach of the Dolphins in 2008. We shall find out soon enough...

*UPDATE #2**: Here's the only statement the Dolphins have made about the release of Mueller, Baugh, and Thompson:

"We appreciate the contributions that Randy, Mike and Rick made to the organization and want to wish them well, both personally and professionally, in the future," said Dolphins President Bryan Wiedmeier.
Meanwhile, Jay Glazer of FOX Sports, whose info is generally quite accurate, reports that Parcells has been given permission by the Cowboys to speak with Jeff Ireland about the Dolphins' GM job. This should come as no surprise as this has been rumored for some time now. It also explains why the director of player personnel and the scouting director were canned. Ireland would likely come in and bring his scotung and personnel people with him and work with Parcells for April's draft. This is probably a HUGE benefit to the Dolphins, as the Cowboys drafts have been much more successful recently than the drafts of the Dolphins. Parcells seems to have a busy New Year's Day planned, with his interview of Ireland and meeting with Cameron. Glazer believes Ireland will be offered and accept the job.

Glazer also writes that in today's meeting with the players, Parcells informed them Mueller was gone but that he was unsure about Cameron's fate. Clearly the window is open for a possible Cameron return.

CBS 4
sys Cam is doing exit interviews with the players. I'll admit to not knowing exactly what that is-- is that just something they do at the end of the year, or just when the coach is going byebye?

Muellers' dismissal
Parcells entered Mueller's office Monday morning and advised him that he had been dismissed. Mueller has since left the Dolphin's training facility.

Thats something Wayne wouldn't never do. Thank You Bill. Don't stop there, keep going.

Cam Cameron
Neo or Matty,

If Cam makes it past today, doesn't that indicate that he may be the coach next season?  If Parcells is going to make a change at HC, why not just fire him today?

Not really
if he makes it through the week, then I'm gonna start to get a bit worried. We'll know one way or another by then though.

Jeff Ireland will interview tomorrow
According to foxsports, Miami has received permission to interview Jeff Ireland from the Cowboys!!!  I think this is a fantastic move!  What about you guys?

I agree
awesome move. Fire Cameron and get Tony Soprano while he is over there. If he doen't get to talk with him this week, it might be another 2 weeks before he can again.

Yep!
I think Sparano would be a great coach!! Apparently the players really like him, and he gets the most talent out of him... It is also a plus that Parcells loves this guy too!!  I think the Fins are finally floating in the right direction.  With good management in the draft, we could get younger and more talented much more quickly than people would expect!!

Whats so great about it is
COWBOYS PERMIT TUNA TO INTERVIEW IRELAND

Though some league insiders believed that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones would fight, Jones in the end opted not to.

Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com reports that the Cowboys have given the Dolphins permission to interview V.P. of college and pro scouting Jeff Ireland.

Per Glazer, Fins football poobah Bill Parcells is expected to offer the G.M. job to Ireland, and Ireland is expected to accept it.

--The Cowboys aren't gonna fight it. There was some talk that Jones might have wanted draft picka as compensation, but that doesn't seem to be the case now.--

Parcells moving fast
It's being reported that Jets director of college scouting Joey Clinkscales already has interviewed for the GM spot. The Clinkscales interview could be a move to satisfy the NFL's racial diversity program guidelines and clear the way for Ireland.

Meaning he could hire Ireland on the spot as early as tomorrow. When coincidentally is the same day he is suppose to meet with Cameron. I expect alot more moving and shaking tomorrow. Cam might not get fired tomorrow, but we'll know alot more about his future.

thank goodness
the big tuna phish is acting fast, I don't think I could take twisting in the wind with Cam, while baltimore and atlanta hired all the good people away. It's a race to get the best talent right now, and the big tuna phish is putting the bait in the water to get the sharks.

I'm tired of these puff phish coaches we've had that talk about being tough and doing all the things necessary to win, but then couldn't tell which end zone they were trying to get to.

We haven't had a coach since JJ. I am hoping we get one this time.

I don't read too much into this
~It's interesting that Parcells wants to meet with Cam rather than simply fire him. That leads me to believe that there's actually a shot Cameron remains the head coach of the Dolphins in 2008. We shall find out soon enough...~

Being that they both have a mutual friend in Bob Knight, I can see him giving more respect towards Camerons' dismissal. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't be completely suprised if he waited until he a GM in place to decide Cameron's fate. I expect Ireland to be hired quickly.

Hopefully BP...
Steps rightly when letting the next shoe fall...the NFLPA will be watching the process of the next Dolphins HC hire very closely for fair open opportunity.  And with the new commish...who knows how quickly something we excitedly thought might be a done deal for a new HC could be undone.

Peace

When has The Tuna been unsure about anything?
I think he is just gonna wait and let Ireland fire him (I hope). The GM usually fires/hires the coach anyways. If he lets Cameron go without a GM in place to approve it wouldn't it be kinda undermining his authority? Besides if he lets the GM do it, he avoids any uncomfortable feelings with Knight.

Does your thought
imply that you see BP will make the GM the boss of the HC going forward?

by OntheGo on Dec 31, 2007 2:06 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

He says he is in
charge of "putting a structure in place". If he doesn't put up a front that the new GM would be in charge and actually be the GM, the Cowboys could fight the hiring of Ireland. What better way to show the NFL that the new GM is in charge than letting him decide the fate of the HC?

I think Parcells will let the GM be the Gm only interfering when he doesn't GM the way he would. I don't think that will be a problem though, since he is getting a guy who thinks alot like himself.

I wonder if Parcells will offer Cameron a
chance to return, but with a reprimand, or lower salary, or as OC.  Kind of like Torre was in New York.  Where, they pretend like they want him back but they make him look foolish if he does.

by mike2744 on Dec 31, 2007 4:26 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

guys....
Just another perpsective here... but do you think there is a chance that Cameron DOESNT wanna come back to be the head coach here now that Randy is gone and that Parcells is the "savior" figure?? I think Cameron wanted to be the head honco figure here and take credit for the future successes of this team. Now with Parcells in the mix, Cameron will surely not get much of the credit if and when there is a turn around.

He seemed very annoyed in press conferences the past few weeks and I get the vibe that he is not very happy about these developments. He's worked hard to try to sell his system and now a new one is being brought in, so I really dnot think he wants to be part of it. Look for him to either go back to college or go somewhere else like Detriot to be the OC.

by YatilGinnJr on Dec 31, 2007 4:33 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

2 cents
i feel like the man knows he was in over his head trying to be a head coach in the NFL and i dont believe he would mind at all being a OC with us or any other club for that matter ... as far as ego ... i doubt he has that along with pride left after a 1-15 season

by KingOnSlaught on Dec 31, 2007 4:45 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

true
yea, i mean he's not ganna quit but I think he'd be a good fit for Detriot. He liked Stanton coming into the draft, and they got alot of weapons up there. He's also lived in Michigan for a while, so I think he'd be really good up there.

Allow me to play Devil's Advocate
Mueller wasnt that bad of a GM he got us a Solid Center, a speedy shifty change of pace back, a talented WR, a strong Full Back and a decent punter.
and hopefully the QB of the future.

Now for the stuff I didnt agree with he got rid of McMichael and he overpayed for Porter.
The secondary wasnt adressed at all and we paid for it dearly.

Now someone might say

"We should have kept Welker and Chambers!"

Wes would not have helped us any, and talent wise he is still nothing more than an over acheiving Slot WR. Hell If I had Randy Moss and Tom Brady on my team I'd have 100+ catches too.
Chambers has been a little inconsistant in San Diego, based on the statline but stats dont tell the whole story. And I'll take a second for him anyday.

Yea, those SoBs hehe
First they tried to get Parcells, when we have been talking with him for 2 weeks, now they hear about Sparano, so they try to get the jump on us again before we can handle our business. No worries though, Bill has connections. I'm sure Tony has already made up his mind where he wants to go and he will probably follow Ireland here, if Cameron is let go. I feel confident he won't take the Falcon's job until he sees what happens here and maybe talk with Bill.

Holy Smokes...
... Neo, you've gone off the deep end with the Cameron Derangement Syndrome (CDS) to the point that you are commenting on your own comments. Get a grip - you own almost half the comments on this thread.

Nothing would delight me more than Parcells recognizing Cameron's strengths and the bonds he has formed with his young draftees and free agent signings. I realize this is a very long shot.

Your  negative judgement of Cameron has begun to pass verging on derangement, it is full force - seriously.

Question: Are you Cam Cameron?
You like to start with me over stupid crap. I don't mind arguing and having fun, if its worth discussing. This you have posted is not. I'm not arguing with you on this one.

I've been keeping up with things all day. If I commented on my comment, it was a update to that comment or something that has to deal with it. I shouldn't have to explain that to you.

As for posting, I've been asked a couple of questions and have every right to post on here as much as anyone else. I've put up with this miserable season and have wanted change and now its starting to happen. Now if you don't mind, You, Cameron, and Lemon go out to eat and leave me be. Thank You.

I am allowed...
... Neo,  to comment here as I please as well. You have repeatedly bashed Cameron for imagined faults to the point of ridiculousness. Just as you are making pronouncements of your opinions, so am I.

I think anyone who labels him/herself 'President and CEO of the Can Cameron Fan Club,' is seriously silly - deranged even. I am not asking for argument since you are obviously beyond it and incapable of explaining anything to me.

Now, if you don't mind, take your thin skin to rehab. I have helped other sufferers of CDS, but you have to admit the problem before the cure (which has a recognition of humor as one of its components) can be begun.

Best of luck.

I am totally convinced that your are Cam Cameron. Tell Bill I said hi today. Ya know, if you started burning some midnight oil to help this team win, probably sometime after our 8 stragiht loss, or maybe game-planning instead monitoring websites, our how bout don't send our starting D-linemen home, you might have won more than 1 game this year.

Only Cam Cameron, with all the change that happened yesterday, would come on here with his/her 1st (and only) post under this thread and ignore all that, focus in and attack me.

I am totally...
... convinced that you are displaying the most important symptom of CDS.

Symptom #1 - The acute onset of paranoia in otherwise normal people in reaction to the mere mention of Cam Cameron.

Now every comment made in support of Cameron must be by Cameron himself! Wow! Your obsession, er, conviction is glaringly obvious.

Just ask for help - I will try and assist you in any way I can.

Best of luck.

umm
Your not supporting Cameron, your just attacking me. With that, I leave you to your real obsession, which seems to be me. That my friend is glaringly obvious with each of your posts.

At least my post are almost insanely sane with (what I think is) the overall good of my franchise. Yours on the other hand is with a guy who makes posts on a blog. So please do not assist me any further. If a blind man leads a blinds man, they both will fall into the hole.

Do you even know that Mueller and 2 of his assists were fired? Or Ireland is coming in today and could be hired as our new GM? I would assume you do, but I wouldn't know because all your posts have been about...well....me.

please be kind. it's pretty clear Cam has had a very hard season. His one win, clearly wasn't a victory as much as baltimore giving the game away.

Plus it appears that this may have been Cam's last head coaching chance in the NFL, so it's likely that he's under a lot of stress these days crossing various body parts and praying that his family is good enough to keep him in an NFL gig.

So in the spirit of the holiday season be kind to him.

Btw, he's also registered as OntheGo here to, but he only posts from that sign in after he's had a few, if you know what I mean.

ESPN -- Following a 38-25 loss to the Bengals, several players said they hope Cameron returns in 2008.

"God willing," running back Jesse Chatman said. "Coach Cameron is better than people think he is. He needs a chance to show what a good coach he is."

I'm not sure what Chatman thinks the past 17 weeks have been.  I'd also be curious to know who the other "several players" are.

A slight update on Cameron I guess
Parcells' decision likely will hinge on who might be interested and available to coach the Dolphins. "Bill is considering keeping Cam, but actively looking to replace him," the source said. "If he can get the guy he wants to replace him, he will. If he can't, he'll keep him." Parcells, the new executive vice president of football operations, also might wait for input from the general manager he hires. (most likely Ireland)

In response to my first...
