Week 17 Open Thread: Bengals at Dolphins

Cincinnati Bengals (6-9) at Miami Dolphins (1-14)
Sunday, December 30
1:00 pm EST, CBS
Dolphin Stadium
Cloudy, 81 degrees
Line: Bengals -3, Over/Under 45

Today's Inactives

Bengals: S Dexter Jackson, RB Rudi Johnson, OG Nate Livings, TE Nate Lawrie, DT Michael Myers, QB Jeff Rowe, and LB Anthony Schlegel

Dolphins: RB Patrick Cobbs, QB Casey Bramlet, T Julius Wilson, G Ike Ndukwe, T Anthony Alabi, DE Rob Ninkovich, NT Keith Traylor, and DT Paul Soliai

Prediction: Who gives a damn? We all just can't wait to get to the offseason, when the real fun begins. This game ends a miserable season for the Dolphins. However, I do think the Dolphins might just hang tight in this game, as I suspect the Bengals have already checked out for 2007. In the end, I'll say Bengals win 24-16.

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

**UPDATE**: Well this dreadful season is now over. Beck looked pretty good in relief of Cleo. I'll be back later tonight/tomorrow morning with some thoughts. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday, everyone.

One quick note:
Due to other obligations, I won't be watching the entire game, though I'll surely be keeping track of it. But I likely won't be commenting much at all. But I highly encourage you all to make some comments and keep this place alive today.

I'll be back later on tonight/early tomorrow morning with a post that quickly talks about today's game but, more importantly, begins our look to the future.

GO DOLPHINS!!

blow out
don't know why, but we'll put up big points if only because that's the outcome that will add to the mix of debate about who stays and who doesn't in this damned season. Fair play to the patsies, they have been great, and we'd want them to say the same if we'd gone 16-0. Still, I don't think they'll be hoisting the big one. Too many pitfalls.

Yeah yeah
Congrats to the Pats. We all hate them, but we can't say what they did in the regular season wasn't quite impressive. But now the real test begins. All the pressure in the world will know be on the Pats. Personally, I hope the road to going undefeated for New England includes the Jaguars, Colts, and Cowboys. If it does, I think they'll get tripped up somewhere along the way.

The IN crowd
Who's in:
Ocho Cinco some people are saying. Pennington (Yyyyuck....) coz BP has done it before. New DC coz capers has no cojones. An OC coz CC can't do both. Garret slipped thru our fingers. FA secondary, never mind our ranking.

Parcells hates guys like Chad Johnson
I doubt he comes to Miami. Besides, it would cost way too much for him.

by Matty I on Dec 30, 2007 12:47 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

What I heard Tuna say
Structure: definitely new OC. New conditioning and medical staff.
Philosophy: a power game based on that which we don't have.
Talent: a seminal draft with echoes for 10 years. Someone will trade for Mcfadden coz he'll make a contender make that step. Jones will pull the trigger when play-off disappointment turns into action. Dallas will give it all for a shot. win-win.

In other action,
the Browns had just driven on their first possession down to SF's 21 yard line, where Derek Anderson has thrown another interception to kill that drive. That's 5 picks in the last 63 minutes of game action for Anderson. Do some people still want him in Miami?

As opposed to whom?
Cleo?  Beck?  A raw draftee?

Finally...
...in the 2nd quarter, the Dolphins get their first 3rd down stop. I don't get why Cincy decided to run the bal l3 straight times when everyone can see we can't stop the pass today. Maybe Marvin Lewis felt bad for us for a second and cut us a break.

bring it...
on! Ok I'm getting carried away.

TEDDY GINN!!!!!!
2nd career receiving TD...congrats and nice job catching the ball and keeping feet in!

This just in
Ginn has been sighted in the states. More than 1 report has him scoring a TD in Miami. More to come.

Short lived enjoyment
Chad Johnson made sure we didn't enjoy a lead for very long.

Oh...
...and Jason Allen still stinks.

Who'll start
game 1 next season at QB? We can guess who won't.

Who knows...
...at this point?

game 1 next season at QB?
I'm just wanna know the answer to THIS question: Who'll start game 1 next season at HC? I can hope who won't.

What I do know...
...is this secondary needs to be upgraded immediately. I'm tired of the swiss cheese pass defense.

Anyways, I'm out of here now. Enjoy the rest of the game. Hopefully the Dolphins can get back into this one.

I'll be back tonight with quick talk about the game and then we will begin to look forward, where the future has to be brighter than what we've just gone through in 2007.

hey Neo
What ya doing for New Years'?

by JC on Dec 30, 2007 2:45 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

What ya doing for New Years'?
Making a New Years' resoultion to start proof reading my posts.-) Celebrating Parcells' arrival, the jettison of my beloved franchise's disfuctional front office personel, HC, players, and trying to forget the Pats perfect regular season. In short, probably gonna get blasted.

This half....
will answer my earlier question

by JC on Dec 30, 2007 2:56 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

perfect situation
for John to answer questions. He doesn't even have to win.

by JC on Dec 30, 2007 2:59 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Ok
if Beck can't move the ball on this defense, he does have issues. I'm not asking him to score on all his drives, but something. Put up a TD, show some competence.

by Neo on Dec 30, 2007 3:06 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

what if...
he can't? bp will be down on him and then what's next? Draft a QB? Bring in (holy cow) yet another vet. My guess is he already knows what steay vet he wants to steady the ship.

by JC on Dec 30, 2007 3:16 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

the exact reason
why he sould have been playing the last 8 weeks.
The dolphins org needs to get a handle on what kind of QB he is going to be. one who just needs some work or a failure, unfortunatly we will never know this season. Can't really judge him for this game since, the all knowing QB developer hasn't given him first team snaps in practice since the buffalo game.

this season
how many times have we lead TOP & lose? or turnovers?

we could have won atleast 6 games that I got to see

by Emmett on Dec 30, 2007 3:36 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

TypicalDolphin Game
at least now that the rout is on, Beck has a chance to enhance his numbers like the offense has been doing all season.

--Note to Matty I: I'm stating this as my opinion not a fact.--

the trouble is...
what have we got to look forward to when Tuna does NOT fire Cam and the long drag to the draft. Sundays are unthinkable.

by JC on Dec 30, 2007 4:17 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Yea
1-15 record

4 blowouts in his last 5 games

Players don't like him

PTF is even reporting that some of his coaching staff has lost faith in him

Not to mention his game decision, management, ect did not improve all year long.

His love affair with Lemon

Sure his staying..........Not

I'm sorry
~PTF is even reporting that some of his coaching staff has lost faith in him~

That didn't come from PFT, it came from the Miami Herald.

As far as the team goes..
I didn't know he sent Traylor home. Cameron can't get out quick enough for me.

It's official
I'm now on your side of the tracks Neo. The way Cam treated K. Traylor did it for me. I can now say I'm on the I WANT CAMERON GONE choo-choo.

This says it all doesn't it?
I need a vacation," said receiver Marty Booker, dressing quickly at his locker. "When everything is this dismal, being frustrated every week, of course it takes a toll on you. I'm spent. It's over. All that's left now is to sit around and see what happens."

by Neo on Dec 30, 2007 6:44 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Beck's release...
is quick indeed.  I hope he can 'slow the game down' like Marino could so he can accurately anticipate the best throws.

by OntheGo on Dec 30, 2007 9:54 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Beck looked like he was finally starting to get
settled down.  It's a shame he didn't have more opportunities to develop during the season.

I also did not understand why they were not sending Ginn deep.  Instead they send Hagan deep, and expect him to run under the ball?  I never really though of him as being known for his speed.  The deep pass to Hagan could have been caught by Ginn.

Cameron is an idiot.
