Report: Parcells accepts 4 year deal w/ Dolphins

The Miami Herald is reporting that Bill Parcells has indeed accepted the job:

Former NFL coach Bill Parcells has agreed to a four-year deal proposed by owner Wayne Huizenga to make him the team's head of football operations, a source has told The Miami Herald.

Huizenga was at the Dolphins' training facility for approximately one hour, from 4:45 p.m. to just before 6 p.m., where he met with Cam Cameron in the coach's office. The futures of both Cameron and general manager Randy Mueller are currently unknown.

The above comes from Armando Salguero. Salguero also posted this in his blog:

The Bill Parcells deal is done. It is for four years according to a source.

Hank Goldberg of WQAM radio in Miami tells me that his sources say Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga has agreed NOT to sell the Dolphins for the four years so he could land Parcells.

The Dolphins are expected to introduce Parcells before the end of this week, barring a last-minute glitch in negotiations.

Huizenga pulled into the Dolphins parking lot at about 4:45 ostensibly to speak with Coach Cam Cameron and General Manager Randy Mueller. Huizenga met with Cameron earlier today.

It is apparent Parcells is all but set to become the Dolphins vice president of football operations or a position similar in title to that that would give him control of the football team.

If all this is true, then it seems Parcells is a member of the Miami Dolphins organization. That's certainly a step in the right direction.

It's also been reported that Bill will begin interviewing potential GMs and coaches on Friday, though I can't confirm this.

I'll have much more on this later tonight, including my Thursday morning post (which will look at what this might mean for the franchise).

12/23/07: YOU GOTTA BELIEVE!!!

WOW
All I can say is WOW. What a totaly unexpected, but absolutely thrilling move.

I totally agree w/ Vonnie Holiday. Before this move, if I was a free agent, I wouldnt wanna come to Miami. Now, I would have to seriously consider it. This is def an awesome move, although I am a little bit upset that we will probobly see the end of alot of players/coaches that I wanted to see enjoy some success.

This drastically increases the chances of us drafting a QB w/ the #1 overall pick, and greatly dimishes the chances that we will take McFadden. Parcells is a huge proponent of NOT taking an RB #1 overall if you've watched any of ESPN this year. Personally, I hope he can swing a deal w/ Jerry Jones and get Dallas's picks. That would be awesome.

One other thing you can say....
is that, for all of the mistakes and bad decisions, Wayne really tries hard to get it right and fix this team.

The guy looks like he is really trying to do the right things.

Hey Left :)
I agree with you that Wayne wanting to win has never been in doubt. He's tried many times to find the guy to really get it done.

The problem has been he's entrusted the wrong guys and they've failed.

I think if you are going to put it in the hands of a person, give it to someone who has done it many times and succeeded.

In particular, I'd say Wayne's problem...
seems to have been that he always sees only the best in interviewees (and employees).  Everyone's always a glass half full -- Wanny, Nick (even when he ditched us), Cam, Jimmy.  That's an admirable human quality, but it's not terribly useful when you're running a competitive enterprise.  Here's sincerely hoping he hasn't done it again.

wayne's problem
yes, but the problem is he never reevaluates his opinion on people or there performance. without this hire is there anyone who really believed Cam would be gone, even in the face of gross inability to manage a football team.

I really think wayne would have given wanny a sixth year had he not quit. He just chooses to believe in people instead of evaluating them.

I tend to think that...
yes Cam would have been gone, even without Parcells in the picture. There were already a lot of rumors of the fins thinking of going to Marty etc.

Again, it is speculation now because Parcells is very much in the picture.

I think this role is light years removed from what he had to do in dallas. I mean for one he doesn't have the owner imposing his will on him, doesn't have to babysit and put a pacifier on TO everytime TO inevitably explodes.

The tuna drafted 14 of the 22 starters on the cowboys team right now. That's a pretty good tally for a 12-2 team.

Maybe it is an ego thing, but really, as long as the dolphins win, I don't care! :)

Interesting thought...
Marty as the HC and CC as the OC....  again..
Definition of Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results...

I'd be surprised...
if Cameron was willing to take a demotion and remain with the Dolphins.  Too much pride to swallow, too hard to keep (or win, as the case may be) the players' respect.

I third this notion
I think any doubts to whether or not Mr. Huizenga cares were erased once he got choked up after our win.

And You're right he has put his trust in the wrong people, but now he's given us a reason to smile this year with the Parcells hiring.
(assuming he stays here)

you ever notice...
that regardless of what is going on, Wayne always comes through with SOMETHING to stir things up.

:)

Yeah
If nothing else, it's been interesting.

Holy Crap!!
I get the feeling that a few players and a few in management are seeing their life as a Dolphin flash before them.
Way-da-go Wayne! Especially for not selling, for a little while anyway.
This weekend should be VERY interesting. One thing the "Tuna" does is make a decision, hard and fast. Usually right, but if not, he still stands behind it.

Tuna for the Dolphins. Gotta love it.

MY GOD THERE'S HOPE!!!
Merry Christmas Neo!! I'm on cloud, forget 9, cloud 30. I actually feel like there hope for this franchise. I can't put it into words.

Bill Belichick's thoughts
when he heard Bill is coming to Miami:

-Oh SH*T!-

-This could be a problem-

by Neo on Dec 19, 2007 11:38 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

As a matter of fact
I think Cam and Randy thought the same damn thing too. -0 hehe

"out-Belichick" Belichick.?
Hell he MADE Belichick. For the 1st time since BB became coach in NE, there is another football mind in the division that compete with the Patriots organization. I am so thrilled.

i know... so...
he should be able to "out-Belichick" him, right?

;)

Lets just say
after this year, theres not gonna be any 42-7 score at half time anymore-).

you are very confident in this move.
i am cautiously optimistic.  I think it's a good move, but 1) the pats are good, and not going anywhere anytime soon, and 2) Parcells has his work cut out for him, having to find a HC, a GM, a QB and fix the roster.  Given that Parcells might stay 3 years, I think he can do it, but it is a seriously big job.

by LeftCoastFinFan on Dec 20, 2007 12:05 AM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yes I am
very donfident. It is a big job,, but I think Bill can do it. There wasn't many people out ther that could do this job, but Parcells is very capable. Sure Parcells has his work cut out for him, but he also had his work cut out for him in NYG, NE, NYJ and Dallas. He has shown over and over he is able.
