Jeff Wilson’s restructured contract ensures the Miami Dolphins continuity in the backfield.

The Miami Dolphins and Jeff Wilson Jr. have agreed on a restructured contract to keep Wilson a Dolphin for the 2024 season.

First reported by longtime South Florida sports columnist Barry Jackson, the contract restructure will see Wilson’s 2024 cap hit decrease from $3.67 million to $2.35, saving the Dolphins roughly $1.3 million against the cap.

Wilson can make up the difference in roster bonuses, workouts, and incentives.

If you asked me a week ago if I thought Jeff Wilson Jr. would be on the roster by week one, I would’ve told you no shot, slim to none. With the Dolphins in desperation mode to shed cap space, I had Jeff Wilson a predicted cut to save $2 million, but a restructure helps both sides.

Jeff Wilson gets to stay in Miami and be an important depth piece to a running back room that is sixth in the league in total yards rushing and first in yards per carry.

The Dolphins get to save $1.3 million in cap and keep continuity in the running back room. His style fits perfectly with Achane in the event of missed games by Raheem Mostert, and history suggests some will happen. In that case, Wilson becomes the thunder to Achane’s lightning.

Wilson also adds a dynamic to Miami’s “finesse” offense that has been missing in late-season games, power and toughness. Wilson can wear down a defense and even make game-winning runs like he did late in the season against the Dallas Cowboys.

It’s a sneaky good move made by general manager Chris Grier. Jeff Wilson Jr. also brings a type of loyalty to Miami that is rare. He’s been a healthy scratch, deep on the depth chart, but you don’t hear any complaining, and he’s always ready when his number gets called.

The Dolphins could’ve saved another $700,000 if they decided to cut Wilson instead of restructure, but it’s safe to say that what he brings to the Dolphins is well worth more than that and adds another good move to the record of Chris Grier this offseason.

So, by now, everyone is aware that the college basketball tournament known as “March Madness” begins this week. It’s one of those things in sports that has a life of its own. People take off work to watch the games. Everyone is obsessed with their “brackets” and how they fair against their co-workers. But how many of you are really into the games for the games? Do you care who wins? Do you follow specific teams or even root for teams outside of who you “need to win”? It has always seemed to me that a lot of people instantly become colossal college basketball fans once this time of year comes around, but I could not tell you what is happening the rest of the season leading up to this point.

None of this is to say that some of you are not year-round legit college basketball fans because I know some people who are outright rabid and watch every night that they can. I am just wondering how many of you care either way, so long as your bracket is not all screwed up too early in. For context, I don’t care either way, while I still recognize how freaking athletic these kids are, making nearly any game worth watching. I just don’t care about outcomes or if I miss the games.

So tell us, do you care about the actual outcome of games as an actual fan, or is it all for the sake of your bracket?

You get an offensive lineman! And you get an offensive lineman! And you get an offensive lineman!!!!!

Not long after I wrote that Miami had re-signed free agent offensive lineman Isaiah Wynn, General Manager Chris Grier and the Dolphins are at it again, signing veteran free agent Jack Driscoll to a contract.

The Miami Dolphins announced the signing on social media a short time ago.

Driscoll, 26, was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. During his four seasons with the Eagles, Driscoll acted as the sixth man, playing guard and tackle. Driscoll has appeared in 54 games with the Eagles, starting in 17 games all over Philly’s offensive line. Last season, his lone start came at right tackle vs. the Buffalo Bills, where he pitched a 79.0 Pass Block grade, according to Pro Football Focus. In total, he has played 695 snaps at right tackle, 150 at left tackle, and 473 snaps at right guard, per PFF.

When I asked family and friends who love the Philadelphia Eagles for their opinion of Driscoll, all they could tell me was that there was a noticeable difference when Lane Johnson was not in the game.

Still, for a team in desperate need of help on the offensive line, bringing in a young player with experience and versatility to play all over the offensive line is an excellent move if you’re Miami. And after last year’s season, where Miami lost one offensive lineman after another, there’s a real chance Driscoll could start at some point in 2024 and compete for a job on the roster long-term. Maybe he even pushes for one of the guard spots, but we’ll need to keep an eye on that as the offseason progresses.

The former first-round pick of the 2018 NFL draft will return to Miami in 2024, signing a one-year deal with the Dolphins. #FinsUp

The Miami Dolphins continue to rebuild the offensive line, signing center Aaron Brewer to a three-year deal worth upward of $21 million earlier in the offseason. It was the big move that Miami made after losing offensive linemen Robert Hunt and Connor Williams to free agency. They also re-signed veteran Robert Jones to compete at guard.

Now, the team is bringing back another familiar face, agreeing to a one-year deal with free agent offensive lineman Isaiah Wynn, ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting.

Wynn, 28, signed a one-year deal worth $2.3 million with the Dolphins a year ago. During the first seven weeks of the 2023 NFL season, Wynn would start all seven games for Miami at left guard, playing 392 total snaps, according to Pro Football Focus. He did not allow a single sack last season but did get called for three penalties.

In my opinion, Wynn played well during his short time at guard. Unfortunately, the good vibes wouldn’t last long, as he’d eventually have his season cut short due to a quad injury he suffered in Week 7 vs. the Philadelphia Eagles. Miami would then place Wynn on injured reserve days later; he would never return.

Re-signing Isaiah Wynn was a no-brainer (IMO) for a team that needed to use every possible lineup on the offensive line a season ago. So, signing Wynn made a ton of sense. Now, whether or not he can compete and win the starting job from Liam Eichenberg, Robert Jones, or whomever else the Dolphins bring in to compete this offseason is anyone’s guess. But for a player who looked solid at times in 2023 and is familiar with the system. I wouldn’t count him out, especially after he earned the starting job a year ago.

Welcome back, Isaiah Wynn!

Williams’ agent, Drew Rosenhaus, tells WSVN that the center is focused on his medical situation and will not be signing with the Dolphins or any team any time soon.

Rumors have been running rampant on social media regarding former Miami Dolphins center Connor Williams and the ACL tear he suffered in December during the first quarter of Miami’s loss to the Tennessee Titans on Monday Night Football.

Speaking with Miami television station WSVN this weekend, Williams’ agent, Drew Rosenhaus, confirmed that the center’s knee injury was “pretty significant,” and that the 26 year-old will not be signing with the Dolphins or any other team “any time soon.”

“Connor Williams had a pretty significant knee injury. So, he’s taking his time with his rehab. I don’t think his plan is to sign with the Dolphins or any team right now. I think he’s focused on his medical situation — getting healthy — and seeing where he stands. Not any time soon.”

In the meantime, the Dolphins brought in Williams’ replacement at center during free agency when they signed former Titans offensive lineman Aaron Brewer to a 3-year deal worth $21 million.

Both linemen — Brewer and Williams — have experience playing guard, so a Williams return to Miami can’t be ruled out if the veteran’s medical situation improves in the next few months. The timing could work in the Dolphins’ favor as well, seeing as Miami will gain a large chunk of cap space on June 2nd when $18 million gets added to their books as a result of Xavien Howard’s post-June 1st release designation.

This situation will be one to monitor over the next few months, but for now, all we can do is wish Connor Williams the best in his recovery.

Over the past week, the Miami Dolphins roster has undergone a change as plenty of players have been added and some players have moved on to other destinations. There are still positions on this team that need to be addressed and thankfully there are still some viable options out there on the free agent market. Either guard spot could use an upgrade since Rob Hunt signed with the Carolina Panthers and fans really don’t want to see Liam Eichenberg out there as a starter. So perhaps the Dolphins could look to add a guard sometime soon or maybe they’ll wait till the NFL Draft comes around.

While the free agency period is ongoing, the most frantic period has passed. Some solid talent is still sitting out there for various reasons despite most of the big names having already picked a new home. Our Miami Dolphins seemed to start the free agency period by only hemorrhaging talent before the front office seemed to wake up and rapidly begin to fill many of the obvious holes on the roster. The opinions of how the front office has done thus far in free agency, as they always are with the Dolphins fan base, are mixed and all over the map. Now, we wait for the final free agents to slowly trickle in as the remaining players on the market decide where they would like to sign.

So tonight’s question is, what other positions do you still need to see addressed? What glaring holes do you still see in the current roster after all of the free agents that have been added? Is there a particular free agent the Dolphins should be all over getting in and signing?
