New York Jets 2008 Draft Preview

The Jets' offseason has been an exercise in throwing a bunch of stuff at the wall to see if it sticks, the thinking seemingly being that if the team doesn't win this season, head coach Eric Mangini could be out. Despite a recent vote of confidence from New York owner Woody Johnson, look for Mangini and team brass to continue to target players who can help out right away. With the sixth pick, look for the Jets to take either 3-4 pass rusher Vernon Gholston (Ohio State) or running back Darren McFadden (Arkansas), either of whom would fill a pressing need. Look for the second- round selection to derive from whatever area wasn't addressed in the first. Gang Green could also use a secondary playmaker or two, but without a third- round pick as a result of the Kris Jenkins trade, they'll have to get lucky with a later-round choice a la 2005 fourth-rounder Kerry Rhodes. Another wideout will probably be a late-round focus as well.
