Jonathan Martin illness leads Bengals at Dolphins Thursday Night Football Injury Report

Stew Milne-USA TODAY Sports

The Cincinnati Bengals and Miami Dolphins have issued their final injury reports before tonight's Thursday Night Football meeting. Between Jonathan Martin's mental health issues and Rey Maualuga's concussion, there are some starters for both teams who won't make the short turn around from Week 8 to Week 9 tonight.

The NFL's Thursday Night Football matchup this week feature the Miami Dolphins hosting the Cincinnati Bengals. With both teams having released their final injury reports ahead of tonight's contest, we can take a look at the status for several players, including some key starters, as the teams make the four day transition from Week 8 last Sunday to Week 9 tonight.

For the Dolphins, the big news is tackle Jonathan Martin, who has been listed as a non-participant in practice all week with an illness. Yesterday, the news broke that Martin had left the team training facility on Monday, and had not been seen since. He is reportedly in a treatment facility, and is in contact with the team, working on some sort of mental health/emotion issues. Officially, the Dolphins listed him as doubtful for tonight, and Tyson Clabo is likely to return to the starting lineup.

Joining him as doubtful is tight end Dion Sims, who has not practiced this week with a toe injury. If Sims is unable to play tonight, and with the placement of wide receiver Brandon Gibson on injured reserve this week, the role of Michael Egnew may be expanded tonight. Egnew has been doing a great job as a blocker so far this season, and could be rewarded with more passing routes this week.

Miami also listed conerback Brent Grimes (quad), tackle Bryant McKinnie (knee), and defensive end Olivier Vernon (knee) on the report, all probable for tonight.

On the Cincinnati side of the ball, the big name for tonight's game is linebacker Rey Maualuga, who is out with a concussion and knee injury. The team also ruled out defensive tackle Devon Still with an elbow injury, along with cornerback Leon Hall (Achilles) and safety Taylor Mays (shoulder) being placed on injured reserve.

The Bengals also listed linebacker MIke Boley (hamstring), running back Rex Burkhead (hamstring), defensive end Wallace Gilberry (groin), wide receiver Mohamed Sanu (shoulder), and tackle Andrew Whitworth (knee) on the report, all questionable to play tonight.

Kickoff of the Thursday Night Game is at 8:25pm ET on NFL Network.
