Elliott is the top running back in the 2016 NFL Draft and is expected to be a first-round draft pick. Despite the NFL's devaluing of the position in recent years, Elliott is expected to break that trend, and could be picked as early as in the top ten selections. Miami is hoping he slips to them at the 13th position, but could also be considering a trade up to get the Ohio State star if they feel he is the right pick.
Miami originally owned the eighth overall selection, but traded it to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for the 13th pick, linebacker Kiko Alonso, and cornerback Byron Maxwell.
Eliott rushed for 3,961 yards on 592 carries with 43 touchdowns in three seasons at Ohio State. He picked up 1,821 yards on 289 carries with 23 touchdowns last season, along with 206 receiving yards on 27 receptions.
Elliott is the only running back expected to be selected in the first round this year.
