Getting positively positive about positiveness!

Greetings All! Beneny here.

Things have not been going so well for the Dolphins lately (i.e. since 2004 or so). And after this past game against Kansas City, it seems like the fans, team, coaches and even the media are all spiraling out of control into a bleak, dank pit of infighting and despair.

And the worst part is that it's all true - coaches (Philbin AND his coordinators) have been outmatched recently; Tannehill has been more inconsistent than I can remember; sure-handed receivers are dropping important passes (how did Mike Wallace become our most reliable receiver????); the defense is missing tackles; special teams has not been very special (missed field goals, blocked/shanked punts)...it has been a disastrous past 2 weeks. This is all on top of the injuries and suspensions.

What is a Dolphins fan to do?

Should we all give up? Hope for a terrible record and the ensuing house-cleaning and high draft picks that come with it? Fly banners during game days about who we feel should be fired? I'm going to say no...at least for me.

I'm going to say, "There's hope for this franchise - this year!" Maybe you don't think so - that's ok. Maybe I can persuade you - probably not. Maybe you get upset at blind homerism - D'oh!...you should probably just stop right here, then.

If you're still reading, then let me say, "Thanks!". I'm going to break my post into smaller sections: balls of hope - reasons why we shouldn't give up...yet; and injections of optimism - reasons why things may turn better...maybe.

Ball of hope 1: It's still early in the season. Last year at this time, we were 3-0 and everyone was optimistic - even ct1361!! We all know what happened next. My point is a lot can happen over the next 13 games and we shouldn't be too pessimistic just yet.

Injection of optimism 1: We will soon get a number of players back! With Reshad Jones back at safety, our safety AND nickel back play should improve - and hopefully our tackling, with Jimmy Wilson no longer at a position that requires a lot of tackling. Also we will soon have Pouncey back which will hopefully improve our already much improved O-line (compared to last year) - the middle of the line has been the point of the most disruption the past couple of weeks, so hopefully this fixes that somewhat.

Ball of hope 2: We are still learning a new offensive system. I think we all knew it could take time to learn a new system, but could we have been too impressed by our showing against New England? I know I was and the last 2 games were mighty letdowns. But hopefully as the players become accustomed to the new offensive plays, things like drops go down and Tannehill's decision making gets faster.

Injection of optimism 2: As players return from injury/suspension, our special teams players can go back to special teams. Special teams just hasn't been very good this year. But as starters get healthy, their backups who have been playing offensive/defensive snaps can return to special teams and hopefully improve the makeup of that phase of the game.

Ball of hope 3: We have already have the same number of wins as our worst season - so it's impossible to do worse. I know that's a pretty weak "Ball of optimism", but it's not our worst start ever and it won't be our worst season ever.

Injection of optimism 3: At least we're not Jets fans.

So in conclusion, here's what I'm gonna do: I'm going to reach right into my sack of positivity and pull out my balls of hope! Then, I'm going to inject my magic serum of optimism into the fan base! Win or lose, I'm going to cheer for the Fins. I cheered every game of 2007 and I'll cheer every game this year. Will I be disappointed? Probably. But if we only cheer when our team is good, are we really any better than Pats or Saints fans?

Go Dolphins!
