Offense (24)
QB (2)
Ryan Tannehill and Matt Moore.
Comments: We will keep our third QB on the practice squad this year. I wouldn't be surprised to see Seth Lobato on the practice squad but look for the dolphins to try to upgrade.
RB (3)
Knowshon Moreno, Lamar Miller, and Damien Williams.
Comments: Notice the order of which the RB's were listed? Moreno is our best back and I think he will be healthy by game one. Daniel Thomas will be gone. I have mixed feelings about him because he never really impressed but he never played behind a good offensive line. Nevertheless, he's had years to prove himself and he didn't. Orleans Darkwa did enough to make the practice squad. But don't be surprised if he's churned.
WR (6)
Mike Wallace, Brian Hartline, Brandon Gibson, Jarvis Landry, Rishard Matthews, and Damian Williams.
Comments: I put Landry ahead of Matthews because he can contribute to Special Teams. We will try to stash Matt Hazel on the practice squad. I think the Marcus Thigpen experiment at WR failed. He also didn't look sharp as a returner this year. If he makes it on the team it will be due to this credentials as a RB/Returner and not his 2014 training camp performance.
TE (3)
Charles Clay, Dion Sims, Harold Hoskins.
Comments: I love this group. I think Sims has been the most underrated player in camp and Hoskins is a playermaker. We will likely try to find another TE to carry on the practice squad.
Offensive Line (10)
Ja'Wuan James, Shelly Smith, Samson Satele, Daryn Colledge, Branden Albert
Jason Fox, Dallas Thomas, Mike Pouncey (will be back by game 4), Billy Turner, Nate Gardner
Comments: I hate our backups at Tackle. Especially for Albert who has an injury history. We need to find a better back up at LT. I could live will Gardner at RT and then moving Fox to the practice squad. I will also try to stash Brenner and Finkenberg on the practice squad.
Defense (25)
Defensive Line: (8)
Cameron Wake, Randy Starks, Jared Odrick, Olivier Vernon
Derrick Shelby, Earl Mitchell, Anthony Johnson, Terrence Fede, (Dion Jordan)*
Comments: Earl who? This guy has been quiet all camp and that concerns me. There is no way Johnson or Fede makes it to the practice squad so we have to stash them on the 53. Dion Jordan will be back after his suspension and we will then carry 9. Garrison Smith to the practice squad.
Linebackers (7)
Koa Misi, Dannell Ellerbe, Philip Wheeler, Chris McCain, Jason Trusnik, Jelani Jenkins, and Jordan Tripp
Comments: It's a toss up between Jenkins and Jonathan Freeny. We may get rid of both if we find a better LB/Special teamer. Jordan Tripp showed a lot of promise. He has a chest injury and will be out for two games. Trusnik is safe due to his special teams play.
Cornerbacks (5)
Brent Grimes, Cortland Finnegan, Jamar Taylor, Will Davis, and a player claimed off waivers
Comments. It's hard for me to believe we will only go into the season with 4 cornerbacks. Jimmy Wilson is a hybrid safety/cornerback and could come over in a pinch. But even then that doesn't seem like much depth considering how many we went through last year.
Safeties (5)
Louis Delmas, Jimmy Wilson, Michael Thomas, Don Jones, and Walt Aikens (Reshad Jones)*
Comments: This unit is a bit concerning to me. I see all SS and no true FS. These players are all very aggressive and that might hurt us for a few big plays this year especially with a weak LB core. Reshad Jones return will likely knock Don Jones off the 53.
Specialists (3)
Caleb Sturgis, Brandon Fields, John Denny.
Comments: I don't like to see a player push it through a groin injury because it has a high chance of setbacks. I felt Sturgis was forced to push it in exb. game 4. So we will need to keep a back up kicker on the practice squad until he's close to 100%
*I know I have 52 players. If Sturgis has a setback we have to stash him on the 53. Unless we put him on the PUP or IR. So that gives the roster some flexibility. But if Sturgis stays healthy we could find another RB off of waivers or Keep Thigpen as a RB.
