Miami's "tradeable" athletes

Tom Szczerbowski

We are getting close to the point where teams that feel the need to make a move (as in trade usually) will get desperate enough to do so. While I am generally pleased with the guys we have, I (as well as many of you) see that we have some areas we could use an upgrade (RG, LB, SS for 4 games, RB and maybe adding another TE or a true FB). With all that being said we have more assets than we have on our roster for quite some time.

There are in my mind a few "un-tradeables". Guys that we would want WAY to much for in return than what the league views are guys as (Tannehill, Albert, Clay). There are also guys that would be very tough to move due to salary issues (Wallace, Wheeler). And of course there are guys that simply have no trade value (bottom of roster and several of our OL and LBs that will make the 53).

I am not saying I would trade these guys. Just saying they have value that I am sure GM Hickey is on the phone exploring now. Here are my top 5 assets that I would at least listen to the value in return.

1) Brian Hartline: Most polarizing guy on the roster among our roster among fans that like to debate how valuable he is. I think that would also pose a giant problem in a trade. What does everyone else see his worth as. I'd at least consider the trade if it were for a young talented LB or pro bowl OL (I think WR has much greater value than OL).

2) Brandon Gibson/Rishard Matthews: Not sure what the league views these guys at. I like both and am not sure we get the right value for either of them. That being said I'd consider a trade for a starting caliber OL or LB for us.

3) Ellerbe: I think we have to explore this. I like the guy and have seen improvement. But we signed him to be the MLB and leader of the defense (neither of those is going to happen). I think he still has value around the league, possibly even heading back to Baltimore. For me it would have to be another starting LB, TE or OG.

4) Cameron Wake: I don't trade him ever, but I am a fan, not a guy that tends to look at facts. He is 32 and we have 2-3 guys that want his job right behind him. What would it take for me to move him. Pro bowl LB, TE. I don't let him go for an OL.

5) Derrick Shelby/Jared Odrick: Both these guys would be many other teams top lineman. They play at a high level and are rotational guys for us. I like them both, alot. Here is what it would take: young starting LB, TE. Pro bowl level OL.

Bonus: Other guys that have value: 6-8 WR's (probably not as much as we'd hope), Dion Jordan, Koa Misi, Brent Grimes, Rashad Jones.
