Who is Jarvis Landry?

Robert Mayer-USA TODAY Sports

One day, Jarvis Landry will be in the hall of fame. I've watched LSU games my entire life, 25 years. I've scouted football for 5 years. Landry is my favorite LSU player, ever, and he is my favorite sleeper prospect in the 2014 draft. This article is a dedicated to showing you exactly who is Jarvis Landry, and what makes him elite.

High School (Lutcher):

5 star recruit - 18th overall national prospect, ranked ahead of Odell Beckham, Jr,, Kelvin Benjamin, Martavius Bryant, Donte Moncrief, Brandon Cooks, Cody Latimer. Click below for high school highlights and see why

'He is very slight in stature (5'11 / 178), looking more like a middle infielder and leadoff hitter than one of the best receivers in the country. He is very lean with virtually no body fat. could improve his speed just a tad, while adding some size and strength. Landry runs excellent routes and his change of direction is incredible making him very dangerous in space. has the type of hands that reach out and snatch the ball out of the air at the last second, leaving unsuspecting defensive backs waving at thin air. His ultra-competitive nature bodes well for him seeing early playing time. Though not a burner, his ability to catch, tuck and run makes him an ideal candidate as a punt returner.' - Rivals.com

College (LSU):

2011 (Fr.) - On paper, you see: 4 catches for 43 yards. So you would assume Landry didn't play much his freshman year, right??

Wrong. Very, very wrong.

Jarvis Landry was a special teams standout/nightmare/wrecking ball. He had double digit tackles (11) and multiple bone jarring highlight reel hits such as the one below. What you see in the clip below

happened about 5 to 7 times that season. In fact, many lsu fans imagined he would switch to safety or cornerback going into 2012 because of his intensity and nose for the football. Those many fans are glad he stayed at wide receiver.

2012 (So.) - On paper, you see: 56 catches, 573 yards and 5 touchdowns. However, the whole lsu offense that year was limited and not very good. Brand new quarterback Zach Mettenberger had not yet developed. This, however, showed Landry's true talents...Poor throw? No problem. Landry would bail out the QB. Every single week Landry would make highlight catches like what you see below and save LSU's not yet developed offense/QB.

2013 (Jr.) - Cam Cameron becomes the offense coordinator. LSU proceeds to have its greatest single offensive season in its very celebrated history. Jarvis Landry is the centerpiece, even outperforming Odell Beecham Jr. (who never should have been drafted ahead of Landry) by posting 77 catches for 1193 yards and 10 touchdowns. See the film below for his best games as a junior. Pay close attention to how well he blocks, takes hits, his physicality, and catch radius/ability.

Bottom Line:

After watching every game, Jarvis Landry constantly reminded me of Chris Carter. His hands are literally that reliable and he makes Chris Carter kinds of impossible catches look routine. If the ball is anywhere near him, he will catch it. Fingertip grabs, sideline tightroping, after the catch running - he seeks contact, route running, and mentality. Some players are destined for football greatness. Jarvis Landry is one of the great ones. And, i have a feeling dolphins fans will see his greatness sooner than later. Keep in mind, Landry and Mike Wallace are both Louisiana guys and that is not to be underestimated or unnoticed. Most Louisiana players are tough like Landry, not finesse like Mike Wallace. Landry will be gunning for those tough throws, and i can assure you tannehill will trust this guy above all others once the game is on the line.
