Two big blows took us by surprise before training camp has even started. A confusing draft has left us with many questions about several positions, some good, some bad. Our free agent approach was not very much what we expected. But in the end we have several things to be grateful for as Dolphins fan, and this post will hit on a few that may calm our inner storms. At least that is what I hope this does. Well without further ado, here goes.
Pouncey may miss up to four games, and our draft did very little to quell our ideas about the interior of the line.
This is not as bad as it seems. Did we handle back up center in the off season? I think so, and here is why. With or without Pouncey, he was going to have to adjust to a new supporting cast as well as a new Offensive Line coach in Benton. We did not draft a Center, but with the depth chart as it stood, there was no need to use a draft pick with both Pouncey and Sam Brenner on the roster, as well as Garner in case of emergency. Well Pouncey is out for a bit, but we also have an opportunity to see what Tyler Larsen, and Evan Finkenberg can do for us in the preseason. The addition of our new toy at Guard was more likely to do with allowing Brenner to handle full time Center duties than it was to see if he could play center.
Dion Jordan gets suspended four games for PED use.
This one is a bit easier to explain. Who is Dion Jordan's back up? Terrence Fede. Fede now gets four games to either show up or show out. Worse case after we put Jordan back on the roster, we can keep Fede as a smaller Interior D lineman until he bulks up.
Landry has proven to be a smart pick by this regime, and the other receiver we drafted looks to be of the same mold. We are unsure of Gibson's health, and Hartline has just cause to keep on his toes. Because both are alternatives that could free up cap space in the near future if we decide to keep them past this season.
The bright side is there if you look for it. #STOPSTRESSING
