Every idea that is formed has to have a plan put in place to make to make it become a reality. My Idea was I wanted to have a double flagpole system plain & simple. The plan was to buy an addition flag and flagpole, which I did. And course you know all about my little test run.
However,....the pole is damaged. It has cracks at the top 3 joints, with the 3rd from the top being the most severe.
Then this situation got me to thinking about something, something you have heard me talk about before.
The Dolphins Cycling Challange, or The DCC as many call it.
My idea is to raise as much money as possible for cancer research through this event. Which I might add is the largest community fundraiser of any team in the NFL ( so I've been told). My plan was to leave to stone unturned in my fundraising efforts and when it came to The Phinsider I would try to motivate the thousands & thousands of members to each donate just $1. Certainly more is better, but for me it's not the amount but the gesture of support that means so much. But is this line of thinking "cracked" as well ?
Many of you may or may not know of my own lose. A Uncle that was a good & decent man, gone way to soon.
My wife has also lost her beloved Grandmother to breast cancer. And then last summer her Mother received the same diagnosis, thankful it was detected in time. She has completed her treatments and is currently doing well. That's not to say there weren't some trying moments as they are extremely close.
And where does that leave me & my Wife ? I'll let you answer that for yourself.
Our family is no different then so many others. We all know of "Mad Dog" losing his battle, but Kim Bokamper just recently lost his Wife as well.
And Garo Yepremian is currently battling cancer as well.
Its tragic and it saddens me. It gives me a reason to ride, and ride I have. It's HOT here in Texas and getting on a bike in this weather can be challenging at times. Just today I went on 100K (60 miles) bike rally in Weatherford, TX at their annual Peach Pedal. And I do so head to toe in Dolphins gear,....proudly.
I am many things and this photo pretty much sums it up,...
I ride to honor the memory of my Uncle and that of so many other loved ones lost. I ride to support those who still are fighting their battle. I ride because I want to help, I want to make a difference. I am DEDICATED to seeing more of these type of photos !
Someone thought enough of me in this picture to use it as on this year's promo cards. I still remain blown away and a bit speechless by the whole thing.
And so it begins, I have begun fundraising for a ride that takes place a week after The Super Bowl in February. So is my thinking "cracked" in asking for $1 per member. And it's not just The Phinsider, it's the Facebook group "Die hard Miami Dolphins Fans". They have over 22,000 members and I've been flooding them with the same pictures I've been sharing here for years.
Why just the other day Paul & Young Ron ( a local morning radio show in Miami ) raised over $14,000 in a promotion in conjunction with Moe's Southwest grill. This is our chance to do something special, something that nobody would see coming. Imagine,.....a rider that has 10,000 donations. It doesn't seem like a real possibility, but yet it is possible. I'm not a man that has connections in the corporate world, I'm an everyday guy that will leave no stone unturned in searching out the same in this worthy cause.
Cancer has punched me & mine hard. This is your chance to punch back,....right in the F'n throat !
Please,....just $1. And when doing so mention The Phinsider in the comments. Together we can make a huge difference.

Editorial note- If anyone is wondering we are at present just shy of 14,000 members on the site with over 100,000 unique visitors to the the site on some single days alone. Griff's projection of 10,000 individual donations, while VERY ambitions is not unattainable. Maybe just throw a dollar his way. Maybe you can give a dollar each month until he rides early next year or maybe 3 or 4 bucks each month instead of buying that Starbucks you wife/girlfriend tells you is a waste of "her' money (please note, if you are female and reading this please substitute wife/girlfriend with husband/boyfriend and her with his). Remember, above all else this is not about Griff or any of us or the site as much as it is about raising money for a worthy cause that has touched every one of us at one point in our life. Lets do what we can if you can. Also Griffin wanted me to point out to everyone, especially his Phinsider family that have done so much as far as donations over the years that he appreciates all of the support- James
