Man how I'd love to have heard those words!
Yeah, I know, I know...we still have RT17, and the jury is "still out". But come on, pass up on Johnny Football!!??
12 months ago would you even think that it would be possible for us to draft him? Not me. Anyway, hear me out.
First of all, I'm going to come right out and say it, we made a mistake.
We could've drafted the most exciting college prospects EVER, and instead we got something named Ju'Wann James. Who?
Obviously 21 other teams disagree with me, but so did they about Aaron Rodgers....and Colin Kapernick...and Tom Brady. And are you telling me that this guy couldnt at least be a Colin Kapernick in the NFL? A lot to be determined, I know...
Anyway, last year I never would've thought we'd be drafting high enough to get him... Now, oh how it pains me to know that we did, but still miss getting him!
And what makes it even worse, is we got just a vanilla OL instead. FACK!!!
So what happens when Tannehill under-performs, again, this year? What happens when we have a shiny new RT and LT and he still just can't get it done. Or what happens when he still gets sacked a bazillion times because he just doesn't have that Tom Brady internal clock in his head?
Well, what happens is, the FO will make us suffer with him for a couple more years, probably, every year with us talking about "this is the year he turns the corner and we make the playoffs!", or, what would hopefully happen, is we'd draft another QB.
But then that means we're another year behind where we would be now, and all our players a year older. And for what, a vanilla RT!?
I mean, if we really do want to give RT another shot, which I TOTALLY understand, could we not have gotten a reasonably decent RT in a later round or free agency, and given Tannehill one last shot with a good OL that way? Would've been a lot easier to replace a RT next year than to start over at QB (but with a Ju'wann whatever on the OL).
Plus, then the worst case scenario is we'd have Johnny Effin Football on our bench!!!!!
Stars like Manziel only come along so often in the NFL, and boy did we butcher our chance. I thought we did the same last year by moving up for a guy who's never had one good year at any level in his life (yes, Jordan), and in doing so, missed out on Cordarelle Patterson, or several other decent prospects (AND lost a second round pick which could've gotten used on a RT mind you)... all because we had just previously overpaid for one Mike Wallace, who will be the former Miami Dolphin after next year, imo.
But that is the life of a Dolphins fan, is it not? One of would've could've should'ves? One of, oooh it's our pick, and all these good players are still there!...and...oh, we picked THAT guy. FML.
Anyway, like most of the rest of us hardcores, I'll still be here rooting the team on, desperately hoping I'm wrong. But man I think I'm gonna be right.
Did you see him up at the press conference after the draft? Kids special. Don't care how rich his daddy was, or how drunk he got in college, or how many stupid tweets he made.
Oh well, maybe he'll break a leg, literally. And besides, there's always Jameis Winston and his crab legs next year, right? ;-)
Anyway, I actually typed most of this on my phone on the night of the 1st round, and I am just now getting around to posting it. Hope you at least enjoyed my insanity.
And so, with my first pick of the 2014 NFL Draft, The Dolphins Select Johnny Manziel. :-)
