Hard headed DC messing up what could be elite group?

As a high school coach I don't get the opportunity to do somethings like NFL guys. The main thing I have to deal with that they USUALLY don't is picking the type of player to "fit" my system. I pretty much evaluate what I have and adapt what our system is to fit them. NFL coaches usually don't do that. What has always amazed me was how because of that stubborness (or arrogance) we may often be missing out on what we could do.

Take for instance Bill Bellicheat. He amazes many by making simple obvious adjustments. You have 2 elite TE's, run a 2 TE system. You have an elite OL, run the ball more often. You have a great slot WR, scheme to move him and get him open. To me these were obvious moves. It also allows NE to draft a real BPA each year since they know the coach will make it fit. I understand Tom Brady makes alot of decisions look smarter, but the coach has been willing to do simple things that are not "normal" in the way NFL coaches work.

Let's look at how Miami did not do this last year. We have a power built OL that is not cut out to run the zone. Yet we install a ZBS that fails miserably. We have a mobile QB, but rarely package boot action in the offense. We have an elite speed WR that we line up in the same spot 95% of the time to allow the defense to cover him however they choose. That's just the offensive side of the ball.

On defense we have the talent to be elite in our front 7...IN A 3-4 DEFENSE. But we don't want to run that because that is not what our "scheme" is from our new DC. So instead we waste a top 3 pick (and very talented OLB) as a backup DE and situational rusher. We also have no true MLB, yet we force a guy that was a solid 3-4 ILB to play out of position.

Imagine if we move Dion Jordan and Cam Wake to OLB and allow them to become terrors off the edge. Ellerbe instantly improves as a 3-4 ILB. Not sure it can help Wheeler/Misi but it makes us only have to play 1 of them. Starks is tailor-made for a 3-4 end (as is Odrick). Sorry Mitchell, but back to being an adequate Nose you go. That does leave Vernon out, but I am very confident he can rotate in for either DE spot and be on the field in all long yardage situations.

Let's quit talking about wasting more picks and $ on an MLB and just adjust to what we already have. An elite 3-4 defense.
