The whole process of the draft, the mock drafts, the evaluation, the hopes and excitement are very interesting to follow. People have very different philosophies and preferences and directions they hope their team move in.
When you start reading mock drafts, the first thing that becomes apparent is how much of an influence they have on each other. They are so similar that it would be impossible to arrive at such a state if everyone independently put together their draft order. Thus a very clear order of talent is established that causes surprises during the draft, because people have got so used to a player being in a certain round.
Secondly, you can notice that the consensus is really very accurate, and though it gets less accurate the longer the draft goes on, it's a very good guide.
As to the Dolphins' draft, I think it looks a very good one. Partly because I was one who believed that if we sort out the Oline, then we have the players to succeed, and partly because I liked the philosophy behind it.
Value is an odd thing to consider when a player has been drafted. If you don't think a player will be any good, then it makes sense to say so. To say that a player shouldn't have been taken at a certain time due to the value doesn't make much sense to me. Firstly, it doesn't really matter where you take them if they play well, and secondly, the idea that they would have been available later, is proved impossible to assert by the very fact that they have become unavailable at the point they are drafted.
I also really like the small school players. If a player at a higher college level doesn't seem so good at that level, I would rather try for one who didn't seem so good going into that system. To reject those players is to assume that all the evaluation was correct when they were younger, and the odds are very much against that.
All in all, it looks very promising, and in addition, there are a number of players that were drafted last year that we can reasonably optimistic will turn into valuable players this year too.
I hope the draft makes us all happy in the end.
