We are headed into the third and last day of the NFL Draft! This year, the draft class is extremely deep and there are still plenty of players still on the board who can come in and start right away. Below is my horizontal draft board with the best players remaining!
A horizontal draft board lists players by each position and ranks them in each round. As each pick goes by, the teams using this type of board cross the names off. When it's their time to pick, they can look at their board and choose from a handful of names. This allows the team to fill needs of their team while picking one of the best players available.
Is this the right way? Some prefer it and some don't. Do teams strictly use a horizontal and vertical board? No. Almost every team uses a combination of both to fill their team on draft day. Each board also allows general managers to see the value in trades and whether or not they should trade up or down while still being able to get a player they want.
With that said, here is my 2014 horizontal draft board for the remainder of the draft. Due to space limitations, it's not horizontally shaped. Instead, I formatted it so it lists each position in rows and names in columns. To properly read this board, read vertically from top to bottom in each specific column as groups of players are ranked in specific parts of each round.
Feel free to print these boards out so you can keep track during rounds four through seven. This will help you give a better idea of what teams are using a vertical board, what teams are using a horizontal board, what teams are reaching, why teams are making trades, and more!
