I am going under the assumtion that we sign some "acorns" at OL and possibly a special teams guy like Hester, but no major players for our team with the remaining time in free agency. My suggestion would be a veteran RT for sure along with a possible RB. That being said, here is my take on what to do in the draft.
Trade down if at all possible in the draft. (I take this back if Marquise Lee, Eric Ebron or Mike Evans is available at 19). The goal for me would be to trade back with a team that had a high 2nd round and 3rd round pick (Oakland?). This would allow us the ability to fill some more needs, but still take BPA approach to the draft by the amount of picks we'd aquire.
So here is who I'd target with each pick.
2a: (around 35ish pick): ASJ (Washington, TE). Giving us a perfect compliment to Charles Clay, by adding a guy that is more of a red-zone threat than anyone on the roster today. I also thought about a guy like Jordan Matthews here if he slides down this far in the draft and would consider him if ASJ not there at 35ish.
2b: (original pick): Best OL of the following: Zach Martin, Moses (OT) or Yakley (OG). If any of these guys slides here we would pick up a guy that could come in right now and start.
3a: (high in 3rd round): Moncrief (WR). In my opinion steal of the draft. I love this kid and think he is our #3 right now and could become a #1-2 WR in 2nd-3rd year of his contract.
3b: (original pick): Marcus Martin (C/OG). Great choice that can start right away or will be someone to develop at C if we lose Pouncy, if not he play guard for us. If he is not there I look at Brandon Thomas (Clemson).
4: (orignal pick): Andre Williams (RB from BC). I think best workhorse in the draft not named Carlos Hyde that IMO is almost as good and can be had 2 rounds later. Pairs very well with Miller. Could also look at several solid RB's that will probably be around at this point.
5: (original pick): Zumwalt (OLB, UCLA). I love this kid. Worst case he is a special team demon. Best case he challenges to play and can replace Misi/Wheeler this season at Sam.
7: Williamson (MLB, UK). Another guy that can play ball that will slide in the draft. UK linebackers tend to do well in the NFL and this guy would be a good one.
After the draft we would then be filled at the OL with 2 rookies competing to start in 2014 (I think both start). A new workhorse at RB. TE position set for next several years and a steal at WR. The only thing I was unable to do was grab a 3-4 round QB as an insurance policy. Guess we can do that next year.
Let me know what you think of the draft board. If you think we do anything before the draft that changes what we are looking for.
