..So this is my first effort at a Fanpost.
I went all the way back to 2008 and looked at our pass attempts per game. And what our record was in games where we our attempts were under 25, between 25-30. 30-40, and 40 plus. My argument has been the same since the Henne days. Less attempts mean better chance to win. Now I understand that the game sometimes dictates what sort of play calls are at your disposal. Miami has been behind, and forced to pass more then anyone has wanted the last 6 years. I do not have the stats. But going off memory. There have not been but a handful of blowouts over this time. Like the rest of the NFl. Most of these contests are 1-2 possession games. Decided by a play made late, a bounce here, a refs call there.
Anyway..This is what I found.
From 2008-2013 The Phins are 46 in the win column. 50 in the loss. In these games we have attempted 40 or more pass plays 17 times. Winning 3. By contrast. There have been 17 games where the pass attempts were less then 25. in these games we are 12-5.
21 games where we dropped back to pass 25-30 times. Our record 14-7. Finally. In games where we attempted between 31-39 passes. Our record is 17-24.
I get that this is a passing league. And things are looking up. Last year for instance. Ryan Tannehill was 6-2 in games where the attempts were in that 30-40 zone. A good thing as we loved to throw. Where we got in trouble was when the attempts spilled to that 40 number. 1-5 in those games. What I am getting at is that we need to find a way to cut down on the pass attempts. This is no big secret. I think this team would be much better if we could be in the 25-32,33 average per week. The total over the last 6 years would agree. This team is much better when we are running the ball.
