Dolphins coach search: Ben McAdoo to interview for Giants OC position

USA TODAY Sports

The Miami Dolphins opened their offensive coordinator search yesterday with an interview with Philadelphia Eagles quarterbacks coach Bill Lazor. Another potential target, Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach Ben McAdoo, will spend Thursday with the New York Giants.

The Miami Dolphins have begun the search for Mike Sherman's replacement as the team's offensive coordinator.  With the offense stagnant over the past two seasons, the Dolphins are hoping to find someone to bring excitement to the team, while also continuing to develop quarterback Ryan Tannehill.

The team started the process by interviewing Philadelphia Eagles quarterbacks coach Bill Lazor today.  Lazor has served as a quarterbacks coach for the Eagles, the Seattle Seahawks, and the Washington Redskins in his career, as well as being an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for both Virginia and Buffalo in the college ranks.

Another potential target, and the one widely considered the favorite for the job, is Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach Ben McAdoo, who was promoted to the position after former offensive coordinator Joe Philbin left Green Bay to become the Miami head coach.  Philbin wanted to interview McAdoo, then the tight ends coach, for the offensive coordinator position in 2012, but was denied by the Packers.  However, this year, McAdoo is a free agent after his contract expired.

Today, McAdoo met with the Cleveland Browns to interview for their vacant head coach position.  Tomorrow, it appears McAdoo will head to New Jersey to interview with the New York Giants for their empty offensive coordinator position.  The Giants met with former Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan and former Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Dowell Looggains yesterday.

No set meeting between the Dolphins and McAdoo has been reported.
