Dolphins GM search update: Caserio set for second interview, Gaine complete

USA TODAY Sports

The Miami Dolphins are on to their second round of interviews for their vacant General Manager position. We take a look at the latest news about the position.

Yesterday was a busy day for the Miami Dolphins in their search for a new General Manager. Reports initially stated that the team was set to begin their second round of interviews with the three known finalists, the Dolphins' Assistant General Manager Brian Gaine, Tennessee Titans Director of Player Personnel Lake Dawson, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers Director of Player Personnel Dennis Hickey.

Team owner Stephen Ross was said to be back in Miami and could consider dinner with a candidate before interviews would begin on Saturday. Then, news broke that, not only was the team already conducting an interview, but that it was actually a first interview with New England Patriots Director of Player Personnel Nick Caserio. The meeting began at the "crack of dawn," as Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald described it.

The team then did hold their first interview of the finalists, talking to Gaine during the afternoon and evening. Gaine is currently working as the team's acting GM, directing the scouts during this week's Senior Bowl practices. He's considered among the favorites to land the position. He may be the favorite, at least before the surprise entry of Caserio onto the list.

The Dolphins will continue to interview candidates today, including a second interview with Caserio as was reported by Tom Curran of Comcast Sports New England last night. Dawson and Hickey are still expected to interview as well.

Team sources have said they hope to have a GM hired before the Super Bowl, and could have someone installed in the position as early as Monday.
