My plan if the phins hire me as GM in 2014

If in my dreams the Dolphins fire Jeff Ireland and hire me as the new GM of the franchise this would be my plan going into 2014:

First thing I do is talk to Philbin. He needs to have ideas as of how to get this team to be better and we need to have a long talk about Mike Sherman. Philbin has backed his buddy the whole time so I would tell him that he has 2 options:

1st: fire Sherman... That would solve alot of problems and assure me that he is willing to do everything and anything to make this team better.

2nd: (which I think would be more probable) would be that he gives Mike Sherman one more year to improve the play calling. This would worry me and I would let him know that if he keeps Sherman and next year we come out flat and incompetent on offense that it will be philbin and his whole staff that will be fired and I will find a new coach.

Next order of business has to do with resigning our current players.

First on the list is Brent Grimes. give him a 3-4 year contract for big money. Hes earned it. I also re sign Paul Soliai to a 3 year contract as well. I also offer contracts that favor the dolphins to Chris Clemons and Dustin Keller. they can take it or leave it. I also offer another contract to Matt Moore. I would offer him something similar to what we gave him already like a 2 year deal for decent money. Bryant Mckinnie, Tyson Clabo, and John Jerry are all gone. I also let Randy Starks walk as well unless he is willing to accept a cheap contract which I dont think that he will.

In Free agency I target a premier Guard that can move well and pull. I give him big money as well to ensure I land him. I also try to get an aging player on the line (Guard or tackle) for veteran leadership and depth.

  • In the draft I take a stud left tackle in the first if I can get one or I take a linebacker if I think they are significantly better than the tackles available.
  • 2nd round I take whatever I didnt get in the first (linebacker or Tackle).
  • 3rd round I target a gaurd that is big and athletic.
  • 4th round I look for a fullback or power running back that can get tough yards.
  • 5th round I look to add another safety that I can develop over the year.
  • 6th and 7th I take the best Guards and tackles available and hope to find a gem.

If the draft goes my way my offensive line looks like this:
Stud 1st round tackle - Dallas Thomas, Nate Garner or 3rd round Guard - Pouncey - Premier FA guard - Veteran Tackle or surprise 6th or 7th round pick.

If there are any players on the line (except center) that fall heavily in the draft that I really like, then Ill look to trade up to a 2nd round pick in 2015 to get this player. that way the line that I build has alot of depth and alot of young players that can start to gel THIS YEAR.

My Goal in my first year on offense is clear: Get this team a powerful and young offensive line that can dominate on the field. I do whatever it takes to achieve this as I believe it will help my quarterback grow and we can start pounding the rock at will again.

Let me know what you think about my ideas and how I would help the team this year.
