The Miami Dolphins spent yesterday meeting with potential candidates for their vacant General Manager position. The team then confirmed the three interviews that they had completed in the search for a replacement for Jeff Ireland. Miami's first three interviews were with Dolphins Assistant General Manager Brian Gaine, Pittsburgh Steelers Director of Football and Business Administration Omar Kahn, and Arizona Cardinals Vice President of Player Personnel Jason Licht.
More names emerge as Dolphins interview GMs
Multiple names have started to circulate as candidates for the Miami Dolphins GM position.
Gaine will worry some Dolphins fans, since he worked as Ireland's assistant, however he is well regarded around the league and is seens as a talented player evaluator. He is also said to be his own man, separate from the influence of Ireland.
Kahn has been with Pittsburgh since 2001, initially as the Football Administration Coordinator before being promoted in 2011 to the Director of Football and Business Administration position. He began his career with the New Orleans Saints in 1997.
Licht has spent the last two seasons with the Arizona Cardinals after having been with the New England Patriots for four years. He has also spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles, Carolina Panthers, and the Dolphins, as well as an additional stint with the Patriots and Cardinals. He has a brief stint as an offensive assistant coach, spending the 1996 season under Don Shula with Miami in that role, but has primarily worked his way up from a scouting assistant to the Vice President of Player Personnel title he currently holds in Arizona.
The team is expected to spend the weekend continuing their interviews, with potential candidates including the Philadelphia Eagles' Tom Gamble, the New York Giants' Marc Ross, the Cleveland Browns' Ray Farmer, and the Tennessee Titans' Lake Dawson. The team will release the list of interviewees following their meeting at the Dolphins' facility in Davie.
