Free Dion Jordan!

Why the game against the visiting Atlanta Falcons tomorrow is the perfect time for Dion Jordan to be unleashed

Koa Misi signed to a 4-year contract extension through 2017

Koa Misi has dealt with position changes nearly every year he's been in the NFL. He spent his rookie year as a 3-down 3-4 OLB. He spent his sophomore year as a 2-down 3-4 OLB, with Jason Taylor replacing him on passing downs. He spent his third year as a 2-down 4-3 OLB, coming off the field in nickel packages, and things started to come together for Misi. He was rated the 9th-best OLB in the NFL at stopping the run by ProFootball Focus. While there was talk in the offseason in moving him to MLB, for now, he'll get to enjoy a repeat of his role from last year. Also, this likely means the team does not see Dion Jordan as a guy who should be spending significant time at 4-3 OLB on running downs, at least for now, given that we now have 3 starting linebackers under contract for several years, which limits the number of snaps Jordan could spend as an LB. Jordan is likely being groomed to become a 3-down DE.

Dolphins depth chart released with Starks starting

The Miami Dolphins released their first depth chart of the regular season yesterday. The only real surprise on it came with defensive tackle Randy Starks listed as the starter over Jared Odrick.

Josh Samuda Cut, Danny Watkins signed to a 1-year deal

The earlier report about the Dolphins wanting to sign Watkins was apparently correct. First, Josh Samuda tweeted his goodbyes, indicating that he had been cut in favor of Watkins after a shaky pre-season. Then, Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald was the first to report a deal had been completed with Danny Watkins. As I wrote previously, Watkins is a former fireman who was drafted at age 27 in the 1st round of the 2011 NFL draft by the Philadelphia Eagles. Watkins has struggled in his 1.5 seasons as an NFL starter, particularly at pass protection. He played so poorly in 2012 that he was benched midseason despite playing on an Eagles' offensive line that lacked depth. That being said, he had a decent 2013 preseason in which he was positively graded in 2 out of 3 preseason games by ProFootball Focus. Like Dolphins fans, the team's front office clearly felt they could use some upgrades on backup offensive line.

Former Eagles 1st Round pick at Offensive Guard, Danny Watkins, to Tryout with the Dolphins this week

That being said, he had a decent 2013 preseason in which he was positively graded in 2 out of 3 preseason games by ProFootball Focus. He'd be unlikely to start on the Dolphins if he makes the team, but based on the beatings Pat Devlin and Matt Moore took in preseason, the team could use some upgrades on backup offensive line.

Miami position battles Saturday night versus Bucs

The Miami Dolphins host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers later tonight. Before that happens, we need to take a look at some of the key position battles still happening in Miami.

Good news for Dustin Keller - No Nerve or Cartilage Damage in His Knee

This new information is important because while torn ligaments can be repaired with surgical grafts, damaged nerves can't be treated that way. Earlier reports claimed that Keller had potentially suffered nerve damage. The lack of nerve damage means there is a potential path back to football for Keller. By no means will Keller's rehab be easy, but this news makes it more likely that his career isn't over.
