How ‘bout them Dolphins!!!
Sorry, had to do that.
Miami has started the year 2-0 on the road with 2 victories against AFC opponents. That's a very good accomplishment. There are definitely things that need improvement, but 2-0 is 2-0, and it don't get any better than that.
Prior to the start of the season, looking at the beginning of the schedule (before the bye), many thought (including myself) that winning 2 games by the bye week would be a challenge. With two straight road games to start the year, followed by the Falcons at home, at the Saints on Monday Night Football, and then the defending Super Bowl Champions, the Ravens at home (not to mention 3 opponents in the playoffs last year) seemed like a daunting task. 2 wins seemed like a realistic goal.
Not anymore!! After opening the season 2-0 on the road, us fans should be really disappointed if Miami is 2-3 going into the bye week. It is never good to lose 3 straight games. So, we as fans, need to raise our expectations. We need to get GREEDY!!
Atlanta is a good football team. They are going to be a good test for Miami, especially for the Dolphins defense because they have skill position talent like no other team in the league. I am hard pressed to find a better QB (Ryan), WR (Jones & White), TE (Gonzalez), and RB (Jackson) combination in the league. But you know what, they can be beat. Miami can play with these guys!! With a rabid home crowd for the 1st home game of the year (I'll be there), Miami can WIN!!
New Orleans is a good football team. They are 2-0, same record as Miami. They present challenges too, especially for the Miami Defense. They have a great QB (Brees) and a great TE (Graham) with good WR's. But I just watched them struggle to beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Let me repeat this: THEY STRUGGLED TO BEAT THE TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS!! Miami is better than the 0-2 Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Why can't they beat NO on Monday Night Football? Miami can WIN this game!!
I'm not sure if Baltimore is a good football team. The defending Super Bowl Champions are struggling right now. They lost some good football players and there seems to be a leadership void. This is a team with good pieces, good players. They have some outstanding pass rushers (Suggs & Dumervil). But should Miami fear the defending Super Bowl Champions? Didn't Baltimore struggle to beat a Browns team at home that Miami pretty much dominated on the road? Miami gets Baltimore at home in the South Florida heat for a 1:00 pm start. Miami can WIN this game!!
Look, I don't know if Miami will win these next 3 games. This is the NFL and winning games isn't easy. But prior to the start of the regular season, I believed that these 3 teams were much better than Miami. I don't think that now. Miami going 2-0 on the road changed my opinion. Along with changing my opinion, they have changed my expectations.
Prior to the start of the regular season, I would have been happy with 2 wins at the bye. That is no longer acceptable. I now have higher expectations for this team. I'm greedy for wins, as the Dolphins should be. These games are winnable, especially the home games in the Miami heat. Now I want 4-5 wins at the bye. This team can do that and anything less would be a disappointment.
It's time for wins. IT'S TIME TO GET GREEDY!!
And as Gordon Gekko would say "Greed Is Good!"
