In a crazily hectic day around the NFL, the Miami Dolphins claimed one player off of waivers today. They also saw two of their former players heading north to the New England Patriots. Meanwhile, two players are thought to be on the Dolphins' practice squad, but no official word as come out as of yet.
The Dolphins claimed fullback Tyler Clutts off of waivers from the Houston Texans. Clutts spent the 2011 season with the Chicago Bears, where he played in all 16 games, starting eight, and was listed as both a fullback and a wide receiver. With the Texans last season, he appeared in 15 games, with no starts.
To make space for Clutts, the team waived fullback Evan Rodriguez, who the team had claimed off waivers from the Chicago Bears earlier in the preseason.
Meanwhile, two players who potentially could have been practice squad targets for the Dolphins, defensive tackle A.J. Francis and offensive lineman Chris Barker, were both claimed by the Patriots. The loss of Francis will likely hurt the most between the two players, with many fans questioning why the Dolphins even exposed him to the waiver wire.
Finally, only two players have been named as on the practice squad thus far. Until an official announcement is made, the signings to the practice squad have to be considered "potential" signings, as was seen today when Francis was believed to be on the practice squad, only to find out at the Dolphins' facility that he was actually claimed by the Patriots. Right now, wide receivers Brian Tyms and Marvin McNutt are both potentially on the practice squad.
Thus far, 15 of the 32 teams have released their practice squad.
