The Miami Dolphins held training camp day twelve (practice ten). Here is a look at what happened during the workout.

The 12th day (and 10th practice) of the Miami Dolphins' 2013 training camp was yesterday. Here's a look at what happened throughout the day.

Practice Observations

  • The team practiced in shorts and without pads on Thursday. Zach Thomas and Patrick Surtain visited the practice.
  • Ryan Tannehill's interception-free streak ended when Brent Grimes tipped a pass and Richard Marshall came down with it. It had been five practices without a pick for Miami's starting quarterback.
  • The offensive line looks to be settling down after a week of experimentation. That could be because Josh Samuda, who spent most of practice with the starters, is locking down the right guard position, or it could just be getting ready for the Hall of Fame Game. The team did use Nate Garner in multiple positions, including second string center, on Thursday as well.
  • Both Mike Wallace and Brian Hartline, who sat out the last couple of practices with injuries, were dressed for practice yesterday, including with helmets, but they spent most of the time on the sidelines rehabbing their injuries.
  • Marvin McNutt continues to have a good training camp as he tries to cement his spot on the roster. He scored a touchdown Thursday, taking a Ryan Tannehill slant pass for six.
  • Chad Bumphis also had a good practice, catching multiple passes in work with Matt Moore and Tannehill, including a touchdown late in practice from Tannehill and an acrobatic jumping reception over two defenders, though he landed out of bounds for an incompletion.
  • Third overall pick Dion Jordan again impressed, showing speed and an ability to get around the edge. He worked on both sides of the defensive line on Thursday, and has seen his playing time dramatically increase over the last few days.
  • The defensive star yesterday was rookie cornerback Will Davis, who picked off three passes, and nearly had a fourth. By Joe Philbin's count, Davis had his hands on at least eight passes during the day. Fellow rookie cornerback Jamar Taylor, who had been out continuing to rehab following offseason sports hernia surgery, returned to full practice.
  • Randy Starks and Jared Odrick did not make it through the entire practice. Both players seemed to have leg injuries of some sort, Reserve defensive tackle Kheeston Randall worked with the starters, and showed that he could be in consideration for additional playing time as defenders rotate in and out of games.
  • Kicking update: Dan Carpenter kicked on Thursday, going two for three, making a 31-yarder and a 35-yarder, but missing from 47.

Injury News

  • Mike Wallace, after practice, admitted that he has a groin issue right now, but called it minor and that he wants to play in the Hall of Fame Game on Sunday.
  • Brian Hartline, who reports say has a calf injury, also said he is looking to play on Sunday.
  • Rookie guard Brian Thomas' injury is still undisclosed.
  • Cameron Marshall, John Jerry, Rishard Matthews continue to sit out the workouts. Jerry is expected to miss 2-4 weeks, while Matthews is said to be out for "several weeks."
  • As previously stated, both Jared Odrick and Randy Starks failed to complete practice.

Press Conference Quotes

  • "There is a lot of different ways to do things, and we'll make a decision on a weekly basis per game-plan of what's the best use of our personnel. Coaches are charged, that's their duty. They have to figure out what players, put them in the right role at the right time doing the right jobs." - Joe Philbin on what he does with the third outside rusher when he has three quality speed-rushing players
  • "Primarily decision-making, number one, and then accuracy, number two. I wouldn't say the accuracy, the location has been perfect every pass, but it hasn't been bad to the degree where it hasn't been bouncing off of receivers and into the hands of the defense." - Joe Philbin on what Ryan Tannehill is doing well
  • "I like him a lot. I think he's doing a lot of good things. He has a chance to be a very good blocker in this league. He's got soft hands, but I told him out on the field (that) you can't drop a ball on third-and-three in the redzone on the three-yard line. But he's had a very good camp. He's going to be a good football player." - Joe Philbin on Dion Sims

Next Public Practice

  • Friday, 11:30pm ET - Doctors Hospital Training Facility, Nova Southeastern University, Davie
