Miami Dolphins sign first round draft pick Dion Jordan

USA TODAY Sports

The Miami Dolphins have announced the signing of third overall pick Dion Jordan. Jordan was the last of the team's nine draft picks to sign.

The Miami Dolphins have announced the signing of defensive end Dion Jordan to a four year contract today. Jordan was the team's first round selection from last April's NFL Draft.

Reports say the team did receive the offset language they wanted in the contract, while Jordan will receive more of his bonus money upfront in the deal. No details of the contract have been released yet.

The signing of Jordan today means all 90 players on the Miami roster are now under contract, and prevents Jordan from missing any portion of training camp. Jordan had said yesterday that a deal was not finalized, but he planned to be in camp on time.

The signing also ends a streak of having the Dolphins' first round pick hold out into camp. In 2012, quarterback Ryan Tannehill missed the first couple of days of camp working on offset language. In 2011, center Mike Pouncey also reported a few days after the start of camp.

Jordan has not been able to work out with the team during any organized team activities or minicamps, other than the rookie minicamp, due to NFL rules. Because Jordan's college, Oregon, utilizes the quarter system, they did not finish their academic term until mid-June, and NFL rules stipulate the academic term in which the player is drafted must be completed before the player can join the team.

However, even if he were allowed to join the team, he would probably not have been able to participate fully in practices. Jordan had to have shoulder surgery in February and has been rehabbing it since.

Jordan, who primarily played linebacker at Oregon, will likely compete with Jared Odrick and Olivier Vernon for the right defensive end position, playing on the opposite side of Cameron Wake.
