Dolphins to visit with Vonta Leach

USA TODAY Sports

The Miami Dolphins will be the first team to host free agent fullback Vonta Leach this week. Leach was released by the Baltimore Ravens earlier today.

The Miami Dolphins are clearly in the market for a fullback. Just after the announcement that the team had claimed former Chicago Bears fullback/tight end Evan Rodriguez, reports surfaced that the team will be the first to host free agent fullback Vonta Leach. Leach, a three time All Pro at the position, was released earlier today after failing to reach agreement with the Baltimore Ravens on a restructured deal, according to ESPN.

Leach was scheduled to make $3 million this year.

According to ESPN's report, the Ravens had tried to trade Leach, but did not find any interest. Now, it appears the Dolphins may be in the drivers seat to land the fullback.

Leach's agent has stated that Leach would like to return to the Houston Texans, with whom he played from 2006-2010. He reached his first Pro Bowl and All Pro selection in the 2010 season, followed by two more in his two years in Baltimore. Leach started his career with the Green Bay Packers in 2004.

Currently, the Dolphins have incumbent starter Jorvorskie Lane at fullback, with undrafted free agent Ina Liaina on the roster. Charles Clay, and the newly claimed Rodriguez, both have experience at the position as well, though both are hybrid fullback/tight ends.

Miami released fullback Rupert Bryan today to make roster space for Rodriguez.
