Why just signing Winston is a bad idea...

Everyone seems to be on the sign Winston bandwagon. If we can just sign Winston to play RT and put Martin at LT we will be set! Sounds great... if Martin can play at a elite-level, or at least well above average, considering LT is probably the most important position on the line. But Martin struggled last year playing LT, and if he cannot improve this year then expect Tannehill to be face down for most of the season.

Then comes the concept of depth. Players get injured, it's football. Martin had to fill in for Long last year when he went down with injury. So what happens if Martin gets injured? Behind him on the depth chart for LT is Jeff Adams and Andrew McDonald. Who?! Exactly. Both players have never even played a NFL game. Are you ready to have these guys fill in at the most important position on the line? Maybe we can throw Nate Garner or Dallas Thomas over there and see what happens.

We need a LT, not a RT!

Now that McKinnie re-signed with the Ravens, our options are limited. I propose we offer a 3rd and 7th round pick in exchange for Albert. He is good enough that the Chiefs used their franchise tag on him. He is worth a 3rd and 7th considering our options.

I'm not done. I also think we should sign Winston to a short-term deal and let Martin battle the vets for the two available spots. It will raise the level of play of all three players considering none of them want to sit the bench. It will also provide depth should one of them go down with injury. If cap room is needed, Dimitri Patterson would be a good place to start.
