Wanted to see what you guys thought of this on draft day. This is assuming we sign a RT or LT before or after the draft.
Trade our 1st and early 2nd rounder to Rams
for their 2 1st round picks. (Some draft expert let me know if that would be enough, if not throw in a 4th or 5th rounder to make points equal each other).
In my opinon the top 2 defensive players in this years draft (that won't go in top 10) are Alex Ogletree and Matt Elam. With the 2 picks from the Rams we draft both of these guys (instant starters with potential to become great players). Ogletree is considered to be the most athletic ILB (former Free Safety) and Elam is a playmaker.
With our other 2nd round pick I like Escobar from San Diego State. If he is not available we could also look at a corner (Banks from MSU is a possibility here) or a WR that falls that we really like.
I see us in the 3rd look WR. I like a kid from Texas...no not the Swopes kid, but the speedster out of the other Texas school (UT) that can fly. Giving us a slot guy in the 3rd round that I think rivals Austin in athletic ability at a much lower cost (not a 1st round pick).
In the 5th I'd look long and hard at all the good RB's that will drop. I am not a fan of Thomas and think any of the following would instantly become our #2 back: Bell (MSU, Stacy (Vandy), Davis (Ark), Lattimore (USC). All are bigger tough backs that would compliment Miller very well.
Later rounds (and if we were able to keep 4th round pick from earlier trade) I'd look OL and CB with a few shots at finding an "acorn".
This means Misi can go to DL or be traded as well as Bess and possibly Odrick (or Solai/Starks) or we could just be stacked at WR and DL this year and see what happens.
We now have 3 good TE (Escobar, Keller and Clay), 5 good WR, 3-4 solid RBs, 2 solid QBs and will have a solid OL (if we sign FA Tackle).
The great part about this draft though is our defense now looks close to elite. In a speed league, we have speed and playmakers at every spot. 3 good to great safeties, 3 very strong athletic LBs, a killer DL and average corners (can't fix everything in one draft, but if Marshall and Grimes recover we are solid there).
