ESPN: Albert granted permission to visit Dolphins

Talk to the hand. - Peter Aiken

Following up on the news yesterday that the Miami Dolphins are in "serious talks" to acquire Kansas City Chiefs left tackle Branden Albert in exchange for a second-round pick, ESPN this morning reported that the Chiefs have given Albert permission to visit the Dolphins' facility.

Time to say goodbye to one of the Dolphins' two second-round picks? Maybe.

ESPN's John Clayton this morning reported that the Chiefs have given left tackle Branden Albert permission to meet with the Miami Dolphins. The news comes just one day after several media outlets reported that the Dolphins were in serious talks to acquire Albert from the Chiefs in exchange for a 2013 second-round pick.

Albert, a Miami resident, is expected to visit the Dolphins' facility and complete a physical sometime within the next few days, according to Clayton's report.

"Even though he signed his franchise tender, worth $9.82 million for 2013, Albert has skipped the Chiefs' voluntary offseason program," Clayton wrote. "Albert has said he wants a long-term deal, and then took to Twitter to express his disapproval with the notion he might move to the right side."

Buckle up. This situation could get interesting in a hurry.

You can read Clayton's article here.

Update: There are now conflicting reports regarding whether the Chiefs have granted Albert permission to speak with Miami. As several beat writers have pointed out on Twitter, the Chiefs might not have granted said permission to Albert, but that doesn't mean they've cut off talks between the Dolphins and Albert's agent representation. We'll keep you posted.
