Offseason possiblities

We all know that this off season is huge for the Dolphins. We need to fill gaps in the roster that will help us win. I believe that with the right adjustments, our team could be a playoff contender this upcoming season. This is a list of some of the possibilities I see this off season for the Dolphins that would improve our team a lot.

Wide Receiver: We all know the situation with the wide receivers. We know that, hopefully, we will bring in Greg Jennings or Mike Wallace. As of right now, I am hearing that the front office is leaning towards Mike Wallace. What do you guys think? Personally, I like both and would be happy with either. I think Mike Wallace might have the advantage because he is a little younger and can open up the offense in a lot of different ways.

Along with the big name accusation, there is also the Brian Hartline issue. There is argument about whether we should cut him and sign someone else or keep him. I think keeping him is the best choice for us. He was Tannehill's go to guy last season and put up pretty good numbers. With Mike Wallace or Greg Jennings being out there as well, things could open up a lot for him.

Lastly, what does everyone think about Wes Welker? I know it is a long shot, but how do you guys feel about bringing him back to Miami? Of course we would probably have to cut Hartline, but Welker is a great all around player. I don't know how well he would fit into our offense, but I would personally love to have him back in Miami. He would get somewhere around $10 mil. so it's a tough situation.

Offensive Line: Jake Long is the main concern here. What do we do? We could cut him and hope that we can either find a replacement in the draft or in free agency, but that is risky. I am right in the middle on this one. I can't decide if I want him to stay or not. His performance has been declining and he has been hurt the past two seasons, but he is still a solid tackle, and especially with a young quarterback, a good tackle is huge for a successful offense.

Secondary: This is my major concern for the upcoming season. Anyone who saw a game last year knows that our secondary was terrible. I think this is the area we need to improve on the most. That being said, there are a lot of options. We can keep Sean Smith and draft other corners in the draft. We can cut Smith and try to find a replacement in free agency or the draft. The options are endless. What I think we should do is cut Smith and save some money to use in free agency for a replacement. I don't believe Smith is a #1 corner in the NFL, and we shouldn't pay him that way. He isn't a playmaker which is what we need in our secondary. There are a lot of quality corners in the draft that could be molded into good corners in the future. Also, there are a couple free agents that could help us out.

One question has been eating at me all offseason, and that would be is Tyrann Mathieu worth it to draft in the 4th or later rounds? I loved him at LSU. He is a ton of fun to watch, and makes huge, game changing plays. The downside to all of this is that he is undersized and he has off field problems. He has come out and said he is starting new, but how much of that can we believe. Especially in Miami, he might get himself into trouble. I think that if we can draft him in the 5th, we should take him. He is a risk, but if he works out, it will be a steal. If he doesn't, we cut him like we just Chad Johnson and we lose almost nothing at all. What do you think?

Everything else: The other positions that are also in question about what we should do is running back, tight end, and defensive line. At running back, I think if we can get Reggie Bush for a reasonable amount, we should keep him because he showed that he can perform. If he asks a big sum of money, let him walk. Lamar Miller seems to be the next running back and I like what I have seen out of him. I think he isn't exactly ready to start, but if Reggie won't take the money we are willing to give him, then I guess it is Miller's time.

At tight end there has been talk about if we should keep Fasano, cut him, or just add another tight end. In my opinion, Fasano has been a solid tight end for us. He is a very good blocker. Although his role as a receiver lacks a little bit, I don't think it is worth it to let him walk. If we have the cap room, another tight end would be great. Just look at the Patriots with Gronk and Hernandez. It is very tough to stop both. If we could incorporate that into our offense, it would just give Tannehill more to work with.

Lastly, the defensive line. I have heard people talking about adding someone to rush on the opposite side of Wake. I think that is a great idea. If we can someone to put pressure on the other side, it would help everything. Pressure on the quarterback will help our secondary and our entire defense. I just don't know who I would pick to put opposite of Wake.

At the end of the day, whatever happens this off season will be interesting. I hope that Ireland makes some big moves and improves our team. I think he has to at this point to keep his job. This is one of the most exciting times of the year and I know we are all looking forward to the next couple of weeks.
