Report: Dolphins, Hartline Close to New Contract

Christian Petersen

The Miami Dolphins are looking to lock up some of their own potential free agents before the new free agent negotiating period opens on Saturday. Reports today say the Dolphins are close to bringing wide receiver Brian Hartline back.

A day after placing the franchise tag on defensive tackle Randy Starks, the Miami Dolphins appear set to re-sign wide receiver Brian Hartline. The deal, according to a FoxSports.com report, would pay Hartline between $6 and $6.5 million per year. The number of years on the “long term deal” are not known.

The move would keep Hartline, who reached the 1,000 yards receiving mark for the first time in his career last season, from hitting the free agent market. Teams can start negotiating with potential free agents from other teams on Saturday. The free agent signing period begins on March 12.

Hartline was the fourth round draft pick for the Dolphins in 2009. In his four seasons with the team, he has 183 receptions for 2,753 yards and six touchdowns. Hartline served as the Dolphins primary receiver last year after the team traded Brandon Marshall to the Chicago Bears in the offseason.
