NFL.com: 'Grimes reportedly could soon land with Dolphins'

Brent Grimes knows a thing or two about playing zone corner at a high level. - Otto Greule Jr

Much has been made of the Dolphins' decision earlier this month to not re-sign cornerback Sean Smith, as well as what how the team will address its now-glaring hole at the position. According to NFL.com, free agent Brent Grimes might be in the Dolphins' future.

So that's why the Dolphins gave the middle finger to cornerback Sean Smith in free agency two weeks ago ...

NFL.com on Wednesday referenced a report from CBSSports' Jason LaCanfora stating that the Dolphins are "very much in" on free agent cornerback Brent Grimes.

Grimes was previously a three-year starter for the Atlanta Falcons before he tore his Achilles' tendon in the first game of the 2012 season. His career totals include 13 interceptions, 54 pass breakups and 254 tackles.

In the NFL.com article, writer Dan Hanzus states that Grimes, 30, would be a "solid replacement in Miami for Sean Smith, who left for the Kansas City Chiefs via free agency."

"The question is how much general manager Jeff Ireland is willing to commit to a player who's far from 100 percent," Hanzus wrote.

Well, Dan, the Dolphins will probably commit to Grimes in the same manner they've committed to other oft-injured free agents this spring: with a one-year deal.
