It's been no secret that the Miami Dolphins have been doing their ‘due diligence' on multiple free agent defensive ends. Among the players that have reportedly visited the Dolphins facility are Michael Bennett (who has since joined the Seattle Seahawks), John Abraham, Elvis Dumervil, and Osi Umenyiora.
But that market appears to be thinning. Dumervil, still smarting from the infamous fax-machine blunder that triggered his release from the Broncos, isn't focused on breaking the bank, but "wants to feel wanted", according to a league source.
Then, on Saturday night, Mike Klis tweeted this:
With Dumervil apparently out of the picture for the Dolphins, Mike Florio also reported late on Saturday night that Osi Umenyiora is headed to the Falcons. "Atlanta is the place," a source close to the situation said. Umenyiora will replace John Abraham in Atlanta by signing for the team on Sunday or Monday.
That leaves Dwight Freeney and John Abraham as the best pass rushers available on the market. Will Abraham join the Dolphins? Or will Jeff Ireland make a late move for Dwight Freeney? If either player is willing to join the team at a bargain price, don't rule Ireland out from making a move.
