Chris Clemons' one year contract explained?

Apparently we are very high on Kelcie McCray, the 2012 undrafted free agent. This makes sense, giving Clemons a one year extention. We must think that given a year to learn the defense and develop (he was injured all of last season) he could be an upgrade over Clemons in 2014.
