I call this next couple of weeks the silly season because there is a lot of stuff being said and until I hear it out of Ireland's or Philbin's mouth take it for a grain of salt. For instance, this report that Philbin does not like Jennings. Where did that come from? It came from the Packers Beat Writer. Did he quote Philbin? Of course not! However because Jennings is considered one of the 3 best FA WR's at this time, it makes headlines. Teams do this sort of thing all of the time and use their beat writers to spread misinformation as well as agents of players. The agent does not speak with a team for several weeks and someone says that so and so are not speaking and therefore it gets reported that their current team is no longer interested in re-signing that player. We have heard for weeks how the Dolphins won't franchise tag Long or Smith which makes sense due to their cap number. That does not mean that we will not re-sign Long or Smith. Ireland did say that he may very well use the franchise tag and the player who was mentioned was Randy Starks because he would not have such a high cap number. Let's all just wait and see what happens. Teams this week are restructuring contracts and dumping players to get under the cap before March 4th. Be patient this will work out better than we think because I think there will be a lot of FA's who are going to be disappoited in what other teams will be able to offer them. The grass is not always greener on the othe side.
