Speed is a need for all teams in the NFL and there was plenty of it demonstrated today at the NFL scouting combine held in Indianapolis, IN. Top college prospects and NFL hopefuls, displayed speed at the skill positions (WRs & RBs) that nearly broke current Tennessee Titans’ RB, Chris Johnson’s 40-yard dash record he set back in 2008. He ran the 40 in 4.24 seconds, although his record was challenged by many, it wasn’t bested. Chris Johnson, former Eastern Carolina RB, was an unknown then, however, after his record setting combine performance, eventually he sky-rocketed into the first round. Today’s top performers had a few standouts and unknowns at the skill positions such as Chris Johnson. That can help the Dolphins, become contenders in the NFL. In my opinion these prospects can help Miami with their world class speed. Sunday’s top performers: WR, Marquise Goodwin, TEXAS- 40 yard dash: 4.27 WR, Tavon Austin, WVU- 40 yard dash: 4.34 WR, Ryan Swope, TEXAS A&M- 40 yard dash: 4.34 RB, Monteria Mccalebb, AURBURN, - 40 yard dash: 4.34 WR, Coradelle Patterson, TENESSEE- 40 yard dash: 4.42 WR, Denard Robinson, MICHIGAN, 40 yard dash: 4.43 WR, Justin Hunter, TENNESSEE, 40 yard dash: 4.44 These speedsters displayed the ability to take the top off opposing defenses and become potential home run hitters with dynamic play making abilities. The Bucs’ have a stud in Vincent Jackson, who lived up to his contract he signed last season. He posted 1,384 YDS, 68 REC, & 8 TDs. His counterpart, Mike Williams was solid with 996 YDS, 63 REC, and 9 TDs. The Jags’ have a good WR in Justin Blackmon who posted 865 YDS, 64 REC, and 5 TDs. Jordan Shipley, did well with his minimal starts posting 244 YDS, 23 REC, and 1 TD. The Dolphins on the other hand had a poor performance from their WR corps. Brian Hartline posted 1,083 YDS, 74 REC, and 1 TD. Devon Bess posted 600+ YDS, 61 REC, and no TDs. Due to his injuries and limited playing time. However, with the lack of top wide outs and slot receivers- for the Jags, Dolphins, and Bucs, those organizations can learn from the Super Bowl champions the Baltimore Ravens, the Ravens' have great speedy WRs in Jones, Smith, & Boldin. They all contributed significantly in SB 47 with big plays. Finally, who would you like to see your Dolphins draft
