2013 NFL Combine Results: Knile Davis is Ridiculous

The 2013 NFL Scouting Combine is well underway, with the quarterbacks, wide receivers, and running backs completing their on the field workouts today. Among the running backs trying to improve their draft stock stood Arkansas runner Knile Davis - a man among boys.

The 2013 NFL Scouting Combine held day two of the on-field workouts today, featuring the quarterbacks, wide receivers, and running backs. One of those running backs, Arkansas's Knile Davis, is simply ridiculous.

Davis was measured at 5', 10", 220 pounds at the start of the combine. He put up 31 reps on the 225 lbs. bench press, the second most among running backs (Tommy Bohanon, Wake Forest, 36). He was 15th in the vertical jump (33.5"), 10th in the broad jump (121.0"), 11th in the three cone drill (6.96 seconds), and 15th in the 20-yard shuttle (4.38 seconds).

Then came the 40-yard dash. The 220 pound Davis ran a 4.37 second 40, the second fastest running back in the event, over a tenth of a second faster than the third place runner. Auburn's Onterio McCalebb ran a 4.34 second 40 to take the top spot, and briefly held the record for the fastest 40 ever, with an unofficial time of 4.21 seconds. However, his official time put him back above the 2008 4.24 second run by Chris Johnson. Like Davis, McCalebb is 5', 10". However, he's just 168 pounds, nearly 60 pounds lighter than Davis.

Which brings us back to the statement that Davis is simply ridiculous.

To add a little more perspective to the time Davis put up, it came in as the 5th fastest through the first two days of the combine. The only people faster than Davis are wide receivers Marquise Goodwin (4.27 seconds), Tavone Austin (4.34 seconds), and Ryan Swope (4.34 seconds), along with McCalebb.

Davis has a history of injury problems at Arkansas, but seems to be putting those behind him. He could be a third day prospect, especially for a team looking for a power running back. He blocks well, and is a solid short yardage receiver as well. If the Miami Dolphins feel, as fans do, that Daniel Thomas is not the power runner answer, Davis cold be in play late in the draft.
