Dolphins vs Steelers final score: Miami wins 34-28

Jason Bridge-USA TODAY Sports

The Miami Dolphins and Pittsburgh Steelers played a back-and-forth game in the snow. Somehow, in the end, the Dolphins came away with the 34-28 win.

The Miami Dolphins and the Pittsburgh Steelers have completed their Week 14 game, with Miami coming away with a 34-28 win.

After a trade of three-and-outs to start the game, the Steelers drove down the field in 12-plays, going 74-yards for a Ben Roethlisberger touchdown pass to Emmanuel Sanders.  The score was just the second time all season the Dolphins defense has allowed a touchdown to a wide receiver.

Miami responded with a 64-yard drive, but had to settle for a field goal attempt.  Caleb Sturgis then connectedt from 30-yards out to close within four points of Pittsburgh, trailing 7-3 after the first quarter.

After a pair of punts, the Dolphins were able to recover a fumble, forced by Cameron Wake on a strip sack, and Miami started their next drive at the Pittsburgh 31-yard line.  Five plays later, Charles Clay was able to come down with a six yard touchdown pass from Ryan Tannehill, giving the Dolphins a 10-7 lead.

Miami would hold that lead through the remainder of the first half, then extend it with a four yard touchdown run from Daniel Thomas on the opening drive of the second half.  The Dolphins were suddenly up 17-7, and looked to be in control.

However, things would quickly change, as the Steelers would drive 83-yards on 4 plays, taking 1:52 to score a 43-yard touchdown from Roethlisberger to Antonio Brown.  The Dolphins would then see Tannehill intercepted on their next drive, with safety Troy Polamalu returning the pick for a touchdown.  In the span of 2:36 seconds, the Dolphins saw their 17-7 lead turn into a 21-17 deficit.

Miami would come back three minutes later to score a touchdown on a 4-yard pass from Tannehill to Brian Hartline, who tip-toed along the sideline for the score.

The first play of the fourth quarter, however, would again put Pittsburgh on top as Jerricho Cotchery hauled in a 16-yard pass from Roethlisberger for the score.  The Steelers would go up 28-24 with the score.

The Dolphins would regain the advantage at 31-28 with a spinning, tackle breaking, hand on the ground but not down, catch and run into the endzone.  After holding the Steelers to a turnover on downs, with Olivier Vernon making the tackle of a scrambling Roethlisberger just one yard shy of the sticks, the Dolphins would add a field goal to extend the lead to 34-28.

Miami would survive a crazy lateral play with no time left when Antonio Brown stepped out of bounds at the 13-yard line.

Ryan Tannehill finished the game 20-for-33 for 200 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception, giving him an 95.5 passer rating on the day.  He also had two rushes for 56 yards.  Daniel Thomas, who replaced a concussed Lamar Miller during the game, finished the day with 16 carries, for 105-yards, and a touchdown.  Charles Clay led the team with seven receptions for 97-yards and two scores.  Brian Hartline added five receptions for 51-yards and a touchdown.

The Dolphins move to 7-6 on the season, while the Steelers fall to 5-8.
