Miami Dolphins 2014 schedule taking shape

Scott Boehm

The Miami Dolphins are currently in the middle of the 2013 playoff push, but that doesn't mean we can't take a moment and look forward to the 2014 season. With the set rotations for the NFL, we already know most of the schedule, as well as home and away games for Miami.

The Miami Dolphins' 2013 playoff push may be under way, but the Dolphins 2014 schedule is also getting locked. Without taking our eyes off the 2013 prize, here's a look at what we know about the 2014 schedule for Miami.

Obviously, the starting point for the Dolphins will be their six games against the rest of the AFC East. After the home-and-home series, the Dolphins will have 10-games remaining to be slotted. The AFC East's rotation for 2014 will be the AFC West and the NFC North, so Miami will play the Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs, Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers, Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, and Minnesota Vikings. The final two positions on the schedule will go to the AFC South and AFC North teams that finish in the same position within their respective divisions as the Dolphins do in the AFC East.

The Dolphins actually already have one of their games locked in on the calendar as well. Miami's 2014 Week 4 game (September 28) will be against the Raiders in London. Miami will be the visitor in that game, meaning they will keep their eight home games. That should also mean the Dolphins will have an October 5/Week 5 bye.

The 16 games are also already broken into home and away groups:

Dolphins 2014 Home Games:

Dolphins 2014 Away Games

  • Buffalo Bills (AFC East)
  • New England Patriots (AFC East)
  • New York Jets (AFC East)
  • Denver Boncos (AFC West)
  • Oakland Raiders (AFC West - In London)
  • Chicago Bears (NFC North)
  • Detroit Lions (NFC North)
  • Tennessee Titans (AFC South 2nd place team*)

*Team subject to change if Dolphins do not finish in 2nd place in the AFC East or if those teams do not finish in 2nd place in their respective divisions.

One key game to watch could be the Dolphins' away game with the Lions. The Dolphins could be in position to be given the annual Thanksgiving game in Detroit.

What are your thoughts on the way the Dolphins schedule will likely fall next year?
