One player suspended, one player away from the team, and constant media coverage and a rumor mill constantly spinning. That's the situation around the Miami Dolphins right now, as the team looks to deal with allegations of player misconduct and tries to figure out exactly what has been happening between Richie Incognito and Jonathan Martin.
The team has suspended Incognito indefinitely, after officially receiving notification of allegation of misconduct from Martin's representation. Included in that complaint were text messages and voicemail that seem to support Martin's claims.
Today, the NFLPA released a statement about the situation:
We expect that the NFL and its clubs create a safe and professional workplace for all players and that owners, executives, coaches and players should set the best standards and examples. It is the duty of this union to hold the clubs and teams accountable for safety and professionalism in the workplace.
As the representative organization of all players, the NFLPA will insist on a fair investigation for all involved. We will continue to remain in contact with the impacted players, their representatives and player leadership.
The Dolphins have asked the NFL to provide an outside investigation into the situation, as well as conducting their own review.
