Dolphins promote Jordan Kovacs to 53-man roster, sign Campbell and Aaitui to practice squad

Ron Schwane-USA TODAY Sports

The Miami Dolphins have filled the open spot on their 53-man roster by promoting safety Jordan Kovacs off the practice squad. This is the rookie's second stint on the roster this season.

For the second time this season, the Miami Dolphins have promoted safety Jordan Kovacs from the practice squad. Originally signed as an undrafted free agent, Kovacs spent training camp and the preseason with the Dolphins, before being waived in the final set of roster cuts. He was then signed to the practice squad until the first week of October, when he was brought up to the full roster.

Kovacs played four games for the Dolphins, recording one special teams tackle, during his initial stint on the 53-man slate. He was waived and signed back to the practice squad in the middle of November, when the Dolphins promoted safety D.J. Campbell off the practice squad.

The two have again switched places, as Campbell was waived this week and signed back to the practice squad to fill the position vacated by Kovacs.

The Dolphins also re-signed defensive tackle Isaako Aaitui to the practice squad. He had been waived earlier in the week to make roster space when the Dolphins signed defensive tackle A.J. Francis off the New England Patriots practice squad.

The Dolphins face the New York Jets this Sunday in MetLife Stadium.
