Jonathan Martin bullying investigation beginning to focus on Jim Turner according to reports

Robert Mayer-USA TODAY Sports

The Miami Dolphins have been dealing with the Jonathan Martin allegations of misconduct for over three weeks now. With the NFL investigation now underway, reports seem to indicate offensive line coach Jim Turner could be a focal point.

Miami Dolphins estranged tackle Jonathan Martin met with NFL investigator Ted Wells for seven hours on Friday, discussing the specifics of Martin's allegations of misconduct toward the Miami Dolphins.  While the focus of the allegations has been on guard Richie incognito by the media and the public, according to an ESPN report, it may not just be Incognito that comes into focus.

According to Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen, sources have said Dolphins offensive line coach Jim Turner is a "person of interest" in the investigation.  According to the report, sources both with the Dolphins and outside of the team have said Turner would "insult, bully, and pile it on" Martin.

Anyone who has ever been anywhere near the Dolphins - at a practice, at a game, anywhere - will know that Turner is loud.  He yells.  His language is profane, and he absolutely gets on all his players.  And, most of the time, the players seem to love him for it.  But, the investigation will now have to look into whether Turner's interactions with, and treatment of, Martin differed than that with other offensive linemen.

Turner's fate with the Dolphins could already be in trouble, given how badly the offensive line has performed most of this season.  Quarterback Ryan Tannehill has been sacked more than any other quarterback in the league so far this season, allowing more than four per game and flirting with the NFL record for most sacks on a single quarterback in a season.

A lot of questions about how the Dolphins coaching staff were not aware of the situation between Martin and Incognito have been asked.  If Turner was part of the problem, that could explain some of it.  However, at this point, and with as many "sources" and reports have been incorrect or skewed throughout this situation, no one can say for sure exactly what Turner did or did not do.

Wells will have to get to the bottom of it all.  He is expected to begin interviewing Dolphins players and staff next week.
