Dolphins Teammate of the Week: Rishard Matthews

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Last Monday, the Miami Dolphins lost an ugly game to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, it's wasn't because o f a lack of effort on the part of wide receiver Rishard Matthews that the Dolphins dropped the game.

Talk about announcing your presence as an offensive weapon.  Miami Dolphins wide receiver Rishard Matthews did that in a big way on Monday night.  Despite the Dolphins losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Matthews had a career game as he establishes himself as the third receiver for quarterback Ryan Tannehill, replacing the injured Brandon Gibson.

Matthews caught 11 of the 14-passes thrown his way for 120-yards.  He also found pay dirt twice, once on a pass to him in the back of the endzone and once on a 19-yard bubble screen catch and run.  He became the first Dolphins receiver to ever have 11-receptions with two-touchdowns in a single game.

In comparison, no one else in the game had more than five receptions (Brian Hartline, 5 rec, 57 yards).  The next closes yardage total was just over half of Matthews', with Tampa Bay's Tiquan Underwood going for 64-yards on three-receptions.

It was an ugly loss for the Dolphins, and a tough one to grasp for Dolphins fans, as Miami became the lone "W" in the Buccaneers' 1-8 record this season.  But, it was not for a lack of effort from Matthews that Miami dropped the game.
