My wife killed her tablet on the way to Miami playing Candy Crush, so we couldn't really take any good pics of this game. But this post is really more about quick observations I made while I was watching the game, between getting my 2 year old and 3 year old to sit in their seats.
1.) The refs literally stole that game from us.
Is it possible to maybe not get home town refs... but at least refs that don't hate the Dolphins? Apparently playing the ball is considered pass interference now, and lets not forget the rule that the refs made up on the fly that allowed them to OVERTURN what was called a catch on the field. He dragged his foot inbounds, even if it was a little bit of a drag. I hope Philbin complains about the officiating, because it was awful all game long. We were consistently getting bad spots all game long, and it is pretty bad when I can see that from the end zone.
I was also upset at the way the stadium was taken over by Ravens fans. It was literally like a home game for the Ravens. It made me sick when Tannehill had to call a timeout in his own stadium because of the noise from Ravens fans yelling "DEFENSE".
2.) Can we please draft O-line heavy in this draft?
PLEASE? I want a LT in the first round, even if we have to go up in the draft to get a good one. I want a RG in the 2nd or 3rd round. I also want us to go out and get Markice Pouncey to play next to his brother at LG. Spend big on that during free agency. Move Jonathan Martin back to RT. If you can't block Suggs, then you need to play RT. I know that may sound tough, and the guys on the other side get paid too, but if you are just plain overmatched against anyone in the league, we can't have you protecting Tannehill's blind side.
I saw another play where pressure came right up the A-gap and we let a LB go unblocked. I don't understand how that happens, but that part of it is not on Tannehill. I agree with most people that some of it is on Tannehill, but if you HAVE to give your LT help against any player, you clearly have a problem at LT.
3.) Can we at least try throwing the ball to Egnew in the seam?
At one point I looked over and saw that the middle of the field was completely open because of the safety to Wallace's side. There was a LB(Dumervil maybe) lined up over Egnew and the LB was tight to the line of scrimmage. If they had sold a dive to draw that LB In, they could have thrown the ball right over the LB's head and Egnew would have gotten at least 50 yards before someone could get close to him. It seems like we are only bringing in the guy to block and it is getting to the point where everyone knows that.
Tannehill has to get better. I know he played a solid game, but there were a few times where he hung on to the ball too long, that he didn't do well avoiding pressure, and he was the cause for a sack, when he should have either taken off and run, or thrown the ball away.
Say what you want about our D-line, but you can't continually give up 133 yards on the ground to every team and continue to call yourself an elite D-line. They are adequate. But they are far from elite. If we didn't need so much help on the O-line, I would definitely say draft D-line in the first round. But we eventually just need to just move on from both Starks and Soliai.
